Specific Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify and apply the five forms of a verb in various contexts.
  2. Construct short compositions using present, past, and future tenses correctly.
  3. Deliver a creative piece (poem, prose, or drama) using proper tense and tone.
  4. Evaluate peers’ presentations using appropriate feedback methods.

A – Anticipation (Engage Learners)

  • Display a quote with multiple verb forms (e.g., “She had been walking when the rain started.”). Ask: How many verb forms are here? What tenses can we identify?
  • Flash Card Drill: Students quickly identify the form of a verb displayed on flash cards.
  • Quick Sketch: Learners draw a scene from a poem or prose story using verbs to label action and emotion in the illustration.

B – Building Knowledge (Core Content)

  1. Verb Forms and Tense Review
  • Focus on the five forms of a verb: base, s-form, -ing form, past, past participle.
    • Example: Write and conjugate the verb “run.”
      • Base: run
      • s-form: runs
      • ing-form: running
      • past: ran
      • past participle: (has/have) run
  • Explore present perfect progressive and future perfect progressive through sentence patterns and guided practice.
  1. Creative Composition Practice
  • Learners select one of the following prompts and write using 3–5 verbs across multiple forms:
    • A memory that won’t fade
    • A future you dream of
    • A moment you wish you could change
  • Introduce the idea of verb mood and tone in shaping narrative voice.
  1. Speech Writing and Delivery Practice
  • Students draft a short persuasive speech using:
    • Minimum 5 perfect tense verbs
    • At least one rhetorical device (e.g., repetition or metaphor)
  • Practice delivery with peer feedback using a rubric.

C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection)

Class Activities:

  1. Verb Relay Race: Teams complete verb transformation tasks on the board.
  2. Speech Slam: Select students perform their speeches to the class.
  3. Creative Gallery Walk: Learners rotate around the room, reading displayed short poems or prose drafts and leaving sticky-note feedback.
