A – Anticipation (Engage Learners):
Starter Questions:
- What are pronouns and why do we use them?
- Can the same pronoun play different roles in different sentences?
Class Activity: Write the following sentence on the board:
Me went to the market. Ask students to correct it. Use this to introduce subject (nominative), object (objective), and possessive cases.
Group Brainstorming:
- Divide students into three groups: each group brainstorms and presents what they know about either subject, object, or possession.
B – Building Knowledge (Core Content):
Definition of Pronoun Cases:
- Nominative Case: Used as the subject of the sentence.
- Examples: I, he, she, we, they, you, it
- Example Sentence: She is reading a book.
- Objective Case: Used as the object of a verb or preposition.
- Examples: me, him, her, us, them, you, it
- Example Sentence: The teacher called him.
- Possessive Case: Shows ownership.
- Examples: my/mine, his, her/hers, our/ours, their/theirs, your/yours, its
- Example Sentence: That is my pen.
Key Notes:
- Use nominative when the pronoun is the subject (e.g., He is my brother).
- Use objective when the pronoun is receiving the action (e.g., Give it to them).
- Use possessive to show ownership (e.g., This is hers).
Examples for Practice:
- Fill in the blanks with the correct case:
- _____ went to school early. (I/Me)
- The teacher praised _____. (they/them)
- This is _____ book. (my/mine)
- Could you help _____? (us/we)
- _____ will win the match. (We/Us)
Common Errors and Corrections:
- Incorrect: Her and me went shopping.
- Correct: She and I went shopping.
C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection):
Class Activity:
- Distribute a worksheet containing 10 sentences. Students will:
- Underline the pronouns.
- Label them as nominative, objective, or possessive.
- Correct any misuse.
Group Work:
- In small groups, students create 5 sentences using each type of pronoun and share with class.
Assignment:
- Write a short paragraph (6–8 lines) about your best friend, using at least one example of each pronoun case.
- Identify and label all the pronouns used.
