Sub-topic: Future Perfect and Future Perfect Progressive Tenses

Specific Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

  1. Define and distinguish between future perfect and future perfect progressive tenses.
  2. Construct grammatically correct sentences using these tenses.
  3. Use both tenses in personal writing and predictive contexts.

A – Anticipation (Engage Learners):

Starter Questions:

  • How would you describe an action that will be completed before a specific time in the future?
  • What’s the difference between “I will have completed the task” and “I will have been completing the task”?

Mini Scenario Discussion: Present this prompt: “By next year, she will have graduated.” Ask learners what this tells us about the timeline of events.

B – Building Knowledge (Core Content):

  1. Future Perfect Tense
Structure: will have + past participle
  • Indicates an action that will be completed before a specified future time.
  • Example: They will have eaten before the game starts.
  1. Future Perfect Progressive Tense
Structure: will have been + verb-ing
  • Emphasizes the duration of an action up to a certain point in the future.
  • Example: By 5 PM, she will have been working for 8 hours.

Comparison Table:

  • Correct: They will have been doing the task.

C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection):

Group Task:

  • Each group writes 4 future goals using both future perfect and future perfect progressive tenses.

Individual Work:

  • Students write a letter to themselves in the future describing what they “will have achieved” by the end of the school year.

Assignment:

  1. Create a schedule for your future academic or career path and describe what you will have done or will have been doing at each stage.
  2. Underline the verb phrases and label them according to their tense.

Teacher’s Reflection:

  • Were learners able to visualize and describe future actions effectively?
  • Were they able to switch between the two tenses accurately?
  • Identify those who need help with sentence construction and tense consistency.
