Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Quick word and grammar review game: Teacher writes mixed-pattern words. Learners read aloud and identify word type or pattern.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Definitions and Explanations:
Mixed practice: The combination of multiple literacy skills—reading, writing, spelling, and grammar—in one lesson to reinforce learning and allow students to apply knowledge in varied contexts.
Review: Revisiting all previously learned word patterns (CVC, VCe, digraphs, vowel teams, prefixes, suffixes), story comprehension skills, grammar rules (adjectives, adverbs, contractions, indefinite pronouns), and writing skills (sentences, paragraphs).
Paragraph writing: Writing multiple sentences in a connected way, which can be descriptive (giving details about a subject), comparison (showing similarities and differences), or narrative (telling a story), using proper punctuation, capitalization, and grammar.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Reading Mixed Texts: Students read aloud and silently from a variety of texts including folktales, fables, journal entries, and nonfiction passages.
    • Examples:
      • Folktale: “The Tortoise and the Hare”
      • Fable: “The Lion and the Mouse”
      • Journal entry: “My Favorite Day at School”
      • Nonfiction: “Facts about Elephants”
  • Identify Grammar Elements:
    • Adjectives: Words describing nouns (tall tree, red apple)
    • Adverbs: Words describing verbs (run quickly, speak softly)
    • Contractions: Shortened words with apostrophes (don’t, it’s, we’re)
    • Indefinite pronouns: Words that do not refer to a specific person/thing (someone, everyone, nothing)
    • Prefixes: Un-, re-, dis- (unhappy, redo, disconnect)
    • Suffixes: -ful, -less, -ly (joyful, hopeless, quickly)
  • Paragraph Writing Practice: Students write either:
    • Descriptive Paragraph: “My classroom is colorful. The walls are bright, and the floor is clean.”
    • Comparison Paragraph: “My cat is small, but my dog is big. The cat is quiet, and the dog is noisy.”
    • Narrative Paragraph: “Yesterday, I went to the park. I played with my friends and fed the ducks.”
  • Comprehension Questions: Students answer questions about:
    • Main idea: “What is this story about?”
    • Story elements: “Who are the characters? What was the problem?”
    • Theme: “What lesson did you learn from the story?”

Assessment Checks:

  • Observe reading fluency: students should read smoothly with proper expression and accuracy.
  • Check grammar usage: adjectives, adverbs, contractions, indefinite pronouns, prefixes, and suffixes correctly identified in text.
  • Evaluate paragraph writing: proper punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, and content relevance.
  • Listen for vocabulary usage: students should correctly use new and high-frequency words in oral or written responses.
  • Provide immediate feedback and reinforcement for areas needing improvement.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Integrated review reinforces all literacy skills in a meaningful, connected way, helping students see how reading, writing, and grammar work together.
  • Mixed practice builds fluency and comprehension while promoting accurate grammar and vocabulary usage.
  • Paragraph writing enhances critical thinking, organization, and expression, preparing students for more advanced writing.
  • Encourage learners to connect reading material to their own experiences, which strengthens comprehension and personal engagement.
  • Differentiated activities, such as group paragraph writing and oral presentations, ensure all learners participate and reinforce peer learning.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes

Summary: Review all learned word patterns, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing skills. Highlight connections between reading, writing, and vocabulary usage.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Read a short passage and underline words with long vowels, contractions, or prefixes/suffixes. Write one descriptive sentence and one comparison sentence.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write a short paragraph combining a folktale or fable summary with descriptive sentences and correct grammar.
Follow-up Activity: Bring a short story from home and identify word patterns, story elements, and vocabulary used.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide word banks and sentence starters for struggling learners; challenge advanced learners with longer paragraphs and additional story analysis.
