Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks learners to share one sentence from their draft and discuss improvements. Quick review of punctuation and capitalization rules.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Definitions and Explanations:
Revision is the process of reviewing a piece of writing to improve clarity, content, and flow. It focuses on ideas, sentence structure, and whether the writing communicates the intended message effectively.

Editing is checking and correcting mechanical aspects of writing, such as spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and word choice. Editing ensures that the writing is polished and readable.

Descriptive writing involves using adjectives, adverbs, and sensory details to enhance sentences and make ideas more vivid. Example: Instead of “The cat sat on the mat,” a descriptive sentence could be “The fluffy orange cat sat quietly on the soft, blue mat.”

High-frequency (HF) words and vocabulary (e.g., crop, fine) should be applied accurately in revised and edited writing to reinforce recognition, spelling, and usage.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)

  • Revision Practice: Learners review their own drafts to check if the paragraph conveys their intended ideas clearly. They look for sentence clarity, logical order, and completeness of ideas.
  • Editing Practice: Learners correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar errors in their paragraphs. Teacher models common mistakes and corrections using sample text.
  • Descriptive Enhancement: Learners add descriptive words and phrases to improve sentences. Example activity: Transform “The boy ran” into “The excited boy ran quickly across the sunny field.”
  • Peer Review: Share revised paragraphs with a partner and give feedback on clarity, descriptive language, and correct use of HF words.
  • Final Writing: Learners write a final descriptive paragraph, incorporating revisions, edits, and enhanced vocabulary.

Assessment Checks

  • Learners correctly apply revision strategies to improve clarity and organization.
  • Editing is accurate, with correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
  • Descriptive vocabulary is included appropriately, enhancing the paragraph.
  • HF words and lesson vocabulary are used correctly in context.
  • Teacher observes and provides feedback on writing improvements and participation in peer review.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Revision and editing teach learners to self-assess and refine their writing, which improves writing confidence and competence.
  • Using descriptive language develops expressive writing skills and encourages creativity.
  • Regular practice with HF words and vocabulary reinforces spelling, word recognition, and proper usage.
  • Peer review fosters collaborative learning and critical thinking, helping learners evaluate both their own and others’ writing.

Practical Activity Ideas:

  • Error Hunt: Provide a sample paragraph with intentional errors. Learners identify and correct mistakes.
  • Descriptive Upgrade: Give simple sentences; learners revise them to be more descriptive using adjectives/adverbs.
  • Peer Editing Checklist: Learners use a checklist to review a partner’s paragraph for spelling, punctuation, clarity, and descriptive words.

Assignments:

  • Revise a paragraph written in a previous lesson, correcting spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
  • Enhance the paragraph by adding at least five descriptive words or phrases.
  • Ensure HF words and lesson vocabulary (crop, fine, etc.) are correctly used.
  • Share the revised paragraph with a peer and note feedback for further improvement.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Revision and editing improve clarity and correctness. Descriptive writing uses vocabulary effectively to create meaningful paragraphs.

Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Revise a given sentence and rewrite it using descriptive words and HF vocabulary.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded)
Write a final descriptive paragraph about a personal experience or a fable read in class.

Follow-up Activity
Peer review of final paragraphs focusing on descriptive words, punctuation, and HF word usage.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide word banks for descriptive vocabulary; encourage advanced learners to add more sentences or richer vocabulary.
