Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify animals’ habitats in French
Discuss simple uses of animal materials (wool, leather, etc.)
Form simple sentences describing habitats and material usage
Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Animal names, domestic vs wild, sounds, sizes, and descriptive adjectives
Instructional Materials
Textbook: French for Beginners, Grade 2
Flashcards, habitat pictures, sample animal material items
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
Where do animals live? Can you name any uses of animal materials?
Learner’s Role:
Answer orally and recall vocabulary from previous lessons
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
Begin by introducing key vocabulary related to animal habitats such as la ferme (the farm), la forêt (the forest), and la savane (the savanna). Use clear, colorful pictures or real-life objects to visually represent each habitat. Explain simply what kinds of animals live in each place, reinforcing the new words with gestures and repetition. Next, introduce vocabulary related to materials animals provide, such as la laine (wool) and le cuir (leather). Discuss in simple terms how these materials are used by people. Use interactive matching activities where learners connect pictures of animals to their habitats and to the materials they provide. Facilitate a group discussion, encouraging learners to describe animals’ homes and the uses of their materials, guiding them to form short, simple sentences. Provide models for correct pronunciation and sentence structure throughout the lesson.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)
Participate in matching games linking animals with their correct habitats and associated materials. Practice saying the new vocabulary aloud, repeating after the teacher. Engage in group discussions to describe where animals live and what materials they provide, using simple French sentences like “Le mouton habite à la ferme” or “La laine vient du mouton.” Practice forming and repeating sentences modeled by the teacher.
Assessment Checks
Observe learners’ ability to correctly use habitat and material vocabulary in both oral and written form. Check for accurate sentence formation and pronunciation during discussions and activities.
Peer Review
In pairs, learners review each other’s matching work and sentences, offering feedback on vocabulary use and pronunciation to reinforce learning.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
Use visuals and realia to connect abstract vocabulary with tangible examples. Emphasize linking words to real-life contexts to deepen understanding. Reinforce learning with repetition and encourage learners to relate words to their own experiences.
Assignment (Homework)
Have learners write two simple sentences: one describing an animal’s home (e.g., “Le cheval habite à la ferme”) and one about a material the animal provides (e.g., “Le cuir vient de la vache”). This will help consolidate vocabulary and sentence construction covered in the lesson.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
Exit slip/quiz: Name one animal, its habitat, and one material in French
Follow-up Activity: Oral matching game with animals and habitats
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
Provide visual supports for learners needing assistance
Challenge advanced learners to write a short sentence using both habitat and material vocabulary
