Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: Teacher asks:
• What do you wear when it rains? When it is sunny?

Learner’s Role:
Students share ideas and point to relevant clothing pictures.

B – Building Knowledge
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role
Begin by introducing key vocabulary related to seasons and weather: la saison des pluies (rainy season), la saison sèche (dry season), le parapluie (umbrella), le manteau (coat). Use pictures, flashcards, and real objects to illustrate each word clearly. Explain how certain clothes are suitable for specific seasons and demonstrate this by matching items like le manteau with la saison des pluies and le chapeau with la saison sèche. Model simple sentences such as “En saison des pluies, je porte un manteau” and “En saison sèche, je porte un chapeau,” emphasizing sentence structure and pronunciation. Guide learners to practice making their own sentences using the vocabulary. Facilitate a group discussion to encourage sharing ideas about clothing and seasons.

Learners’ Activities
Learners actively engage in matching exercises where they pair clothing items with the correct season using flashcards or pictures. They repeat the teacher’s example sentences and practice creating their own oral sentences describing what they wear in each season. Learners participate in group discussions, sharing their ideas and listening to peers to build confidence in using the vocabulary and sentence structures.

Assessment Checks
The teacher observes the learners during matching activities to ensure they correctly associate clothes with seasons. Oral questioning is used to assess sentence formation and comprehension, asking learners to explain why certain clothes are used in specific seasons. Accuracy in pronunciation and grammar is also monitored during sentence practice.

Peer Review
Pairs work together to check each other’s clothing-season matches and sentence usage. They provide constructive feedback, correcting pronunciation and helping improve sentence construction.

Notes

  • Emphasize the importance of seasonal vocabulary to deepen understanding.
  • Encourage all learners to participate orally to build speaking confidence.
  • Use repetition and varied examples to reinforce learning.

Assignment
Learners write two sentences in French: one about what they wear during the dry season and one about what they wear during the rainy season (e.g., “En saison sèche, je porte un chapeau.” and “En saison des pluies, je porte un manteau.”).

C – Consolidation
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
• Exit slip/quiz: Match clothing items to seasons.
• Follow-up Activity: Group oral practice.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
Use visual aids for learners needing support.
