Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 15, Period 3
Topic: Gender and Equality
Sub-topic: Understanding gender, respect, roles, and differences
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to define gender (male and female), explain that all humans are equal, recognize the need for respect regardless of gender, and discuss roles, similarities, and differences in an age-appropriate way.
Previous Knowledge
Students already know male and female differences, private parts, and basic reproduction concepts.
Instructional Materials
Charts or pictures of boys and girls, storybooks on equality, markers, discussion prompts
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks students to think about what makes boys and girls different and what makes them the same. Students share examples from home or school.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
• Teacher introduces the concept of gender as male and female, explaining that all humans are equal despite physical differences.
• Teacher shows pictures, stories, or role-play scenarios illustrating males and females performing similar tasks (e.g., boys and girls playing, learning, helping at home).
• Students participate in a “Similarity and Difference Chart” activity: in small groups, they list ways boys and girls are similar and ways they differ in safe, age-appropriate ways (height, hair, clothing, etc.).
• Role-play activity: students act out scenarios where boys and girls are treated equally in school, games, and chores. Teacher guides discussion on fairness and respect.
• Guided discussion: students share examples from home, school, and community where equality is shown or not shown.
Assessment Checks:
• Teacher asks students to give examples of equal treatment in school or at home.
• Check students’ group charts for correct identification of similarities and differences.
• Observe participation in role-plays and discussion, noting understanding of respect and fairness.
• Oral questioning: “Why should boys and girls be treated equally?” “Give one way to show respect to everyone.”
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
• Emphasize that differences between males and females do not mean one is better than the other.
• Reinforce that respect and fairness are important in all situations—classroom, home, playground, and community.
• Encourage students to practice equality in their daily interactions.
• Connect lessons on body privacy and personal safety with gender respect, showing that respecting differences includes respecting bodies and personal boundaries.
• Highlight that promoting equality fosters kindness, cooperation, and understanding among peers.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Students summarize what gender is, why equality is important, and how to respect others. Teacher reinforces key ideas through discussion.
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one similarity and one difference between boys and girls and explain one way to show respect to everyone. Teacher collects slips and provides oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded)
Students draw two children (one boy, one girl) and list one similarity and one difference between them.
Follow-up Activity: Encourage students to notice examples of equality and fairness at home and school.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Use visual aids, group discussions, and storytelling to support understanding. Pair students for peer learning.
