Topic: Addition
Sub-topic: Addition of Three or More Two-Digit Numbers Without Regrouping

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Add three or more two-digit numbers without regrouping
Arrange numbers horizontally and vertically for addition
Solve real-life problems involving multi-number addition

Previous Knowledge
Students already know how to add two-digit numbers without regrouping

Instructional Materials

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks pupils to quickly add simple 1-digit numbers such as 4 + 3 + 2. Learners respond orally and explain how they found the answer. Teacher introduces the idea that today’s lesson extends this to larger numbers.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Addition means putting numbers together to find the total. When adding three or more two-digit numbers without regrouping, we must add step by step, column by column, without carrying over.

Example 1 (Horizontal Addition):
23 + 15 + 21 = ?
First, add 23 + 15 = 38
Next, 38 + 21 = 59
So, 23 + 15 + 21 = 59

Example 2 (Vertical Addition):
  24

  32

+13
———
  69

Step 1: Add the units (4 + 2 + 3 = 9).
Step 2: Add the tens (2 + 3 + 1 = 6).
Final Answer = 69

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Pupils solve seatwork exercises in horizontal and vertical form
Group challenge: find the sum of boys, girls, and teachers in class population
Math race game: each group quickly solves a multi-number problem

Assessment Checks:
What is 12 + 23 + 14?
Write 41 + 22 + 12 vertically and solve.
Explain why regrouping was not needed.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Multi-number addition is solved step by step by adding units and tens separately. No regrouping means no carrying is required because the sum of digits in each column is less than 10.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Pupils recap that addition is combining numbers and that three or more two-digit numbers can be added horizontally or vertically without regrouping.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Add 21 + 13 + 15 and write the answer.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Add: (i) 25 + 14 + 12 (ii) 33 + 11 + 22 (iii) 41 + 16 + 13

Follow-up Activity:
Students collect small household data (e.g., number of chairs, cups, and plates) and add them together.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Pair advanced pupils with slower learners in group tasks. Provide simplified problems for struggling learners.
