Topic: Addition with Regrouping
Sub-topic: Addition of Three or More Two-Digit Numbers Using Regrouping

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Add three or more two-digit numbers using regrouping
Apply regrouping rules to solve multi-number sums

Previous Knowledge
Students already know how to regroup in two-digit addition

Instructional Materials

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher writes 24 + 15 + 32 on the board and asks students to try without regrouping. Then gives 37 + 28 + 46 to show regrouping is needed.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
When adding three or more two-digit numbers, regrouping is used if the ones column sum exceeds 9. Example:
37 + 28 + 46
Step 1: Add the ones column (7 + 8 + 6 = 21). Write 1, carry 2.
Step 2: Add the tens column (3 + 2 + 4 + 2 = 11). Write 1, carry 1 to hundreds. Final answer = 111.
Example 2:
45 + 39 + 28
Ones: 5 + 9 + 8 = 22. Write 2, carry 2.
Tens: 4 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 11. Write 1, carry 1.
Answer = 112.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Group work: each group solves three problems using base-10 blocks.
Role-play “Banker Game”: students add different currency notes and regroup into higher denominations.
Exercises using population data, e.g., boys + girls + teachers.

Assessment Checks:
Solve 26 + 47 + 58 and 34 + 29 + 45.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Regrouping allows accurate addition across multiple digits. Each column is added separately, and any tens carried are added to the next column.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Adding more than two numbers requires step-by-step regrouping. Always check each column and carry correctly.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip: Solve 38 + 46 + 29.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Solve: 67 + 48 + 29, 56 + 37 + 45, 23 + 49 + 38.

Follow-up Activity:
Students bring family population data and add totals using regrouping.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Struggling learners use number charts. Advanced learners try 4 two-digit numbers.
