Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher reviews place value with quick oral questions: “What is the place value of 7 in 372?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Definition: Expanded form is writing a number by showing the value of each digit.
Examples:
156 = 100 + 50 + 6
402 = 400 + 0 + 2
739 = 700 + 30 + 9
Discussion: Expanded form helps us understand the value of each digit.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Work on fill-in-the-blank worksheets to expand numbers.
Play “Number Expander” game in groups.
Match standard numbers to expanded form cards.

Assessment Checks:
Oral: Teacher asks learners to expand 248.
Written: Fill in blanks for 531 = ___ + ___ + ___.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Expanded form shows how each digit contributes to the total value of the number.
It makes the number easier to understand and compare.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews steps for expanding numbers and solves 2–3 examples with learners.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip: Write the expanded form of 605.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write the expanded forms of 214, 399, and 480.

Follow-up Activity:
Learners create their own 3-digit numbers and expand them.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Pair learners for peer teaching.
Provide simpler numbers (2-digit) for learners who struggle.
