Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 10, Period 2
Topic: Fractions
Sub-topic: Introduction to Fractions (Reading and Writing)

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify and name fractions like ½, ⅓, ¼
Read and write names for fractions

Previous Knowledge
Students already know parts of a whole from sharing objects.

Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook for Grade 2, paper circles, fraction charts, objects like bread slices

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher shows a whole fruit and asks: “If I share this into two equal parts, what do we get?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Definition: A fraction shows a part of a whole.
Examples:
½ means one out of two equal parts
⅓ means one out of three equal parts
¼ means one out of four equal parts
Demonstration with paper folding and real-life examples (bread, pizza, fruits).
Writing fractions in numerals and words: ½ = one-half, ¼ = one-fourth.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Fold papers into halves, thirds, and fourths.
Label fractions of shapes and objects.
Play matching game: fraction numeral with fraction word.

Assessment Checks:
Oral: Teacher asks, “What fraction is one out of four equal parts?”
Written: Shade ½ of a circle in worksheet.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Fractions must be equal parts of a whole.
The bottom number (denominator) shows total parts; the top number (numerator) shows chosen parts.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Students explain in their own words what a fraction means and give examples.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip: Write the fraction of a pizza cut into 2 equal parts with 1 part shaded.

Assignment (Expanded):
Draw and shade shapes to show ½, ⅓, and ¼.

Follow-up Activity:
At home, learners cut bread into equal parts and identify the fractions.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Use real-life examples and visual aids for struggling learners.
