Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher shows different classroom objects (pens, books, shoes) and asks learners to count them aloud. Learners say how many items are in each group. Teacher introduces the word “set” to mean a group of things.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
A set is a collection of objects, people, or things grouped together. Each object in a set is called an element. Example: A set of pencils on a table = {✏, ✏, ✏}. The number of elements in a set is called its size. Whole numbers (0, 1, 2, 3 …) are used to count how many elements are in a set. Example: If a basket has 4 oranges, then the set of oranges has 4 elements, written as 4. Comparing sets means checking which group has more, fewer, or equal objects. Example: Set A = {🍎, 🍎, 🍎} has 3 apples. Set B = {🍌, 🍌} has 2 bananas. Set A is bigger than Set B.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Learners group pencils, shoes, or books into sets. Learners count the number of elements in each set and match them with whole numbers on the number line. Learners form sets using themselves (e.g., boys form one set, girls form another).

What is a set? How many elements are in the set {⚽, ⚽, ⚽, ⚽}? Which set is bigger: {🍎, 🍎, 🍎} or {🍌, 🍌}?

Exit slip/quiz: Draw a set of 5 balls. Write the whole number for the set. Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

At home, make three sets of objects (spoons, cups, or toys). Count and write the number of elements in each set.
Follow-up Activity:
Use number line charts to match sets with numbers.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Pair slow learners with fast learners for group counting. Use real objects for kinesthetic learners.
