Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks learners: “Who is taller between you and your friend?” Learners respond and compare by standing side by side.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Length tells us how long something is. Height tells us how tall something is.
Local units used for measuring include hand spans, feet, sticks, ropes, and arms.
Examples:
A table can be measured using hand spans.
The classroom floor can be measured using feet.
Your friend’s height can be measured using a stick or rope.
Vocabulary: long, short, tall, longer, shorter, tallest, shortest.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Learners measure classroom objects using hand spans.
Learners measure classroom length with feet.
Pairs compare height using strings.

Assessment Checks:
What is length?
What is height?
Give one local unit for measuring length.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Length and height describe sizes of objects. Local units are easy to use but can be different from person to person.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Length tells us how long, and height tells us how tall. Local units such as hand spans, feet, and sticks are useful for quick measurement.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Learners write one item they can measure with their foot and one item they can measure with their hand span. Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
At home, measure a door with your hand span.

Follow-up Activity:
Next class, learners bring strings or sticks for practice.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners with difficulties will use simpler examples like measuring their books. Advanced learners will estimate before measuring.
