Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher asks learners to count aloud from 1 to 100.
Learners are shown flashcards with numbers up to 100 to refresh memory.
Quick oral drill: teacher calls out a number and students respond with the next number.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Numbers greater than 100 are introduced step by step up to 200.
Definition: A numeral is a symbol used to represent a number. For example, 132 is a numeral.
Discussion: Each number has a name written in words. For example, 132 is written as “one hundred thirty-two.”
Examples:
101 = one hundred one
125 = one hundred twenty-five
199 = one hundred ninety-nine
200 = two hundred
Demonstration using a number line from 1–200. Teacher points to numbers and learners read aloud.
Examples of writing numbers in words are given, and the connection between numerals and words is emphasized.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Play a group number line game where students stand in order from 101–120.
Use flashcards where students read the numeral and another student spells it in words.
Work on worksheets where learners match numerals to the correct number words.
Dictation: teacher says numbers like 134, 178, 200, and learners write them in numerals.

Assessment Checks:
Teacher asks oral questions such as: “What number comes after 109?”
Ask students to write 145 in words.
Provide a short worksheet with missing numerals and words.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Numbers can be shown in two forms: numerals (123) and words (one hundred twenty-three).
When writing in words, the tens and ones must be spelled correctly. For example, 178 = one hundred seventy-eight.
Numbers up to 200 follow the same pattern as numbers up to 100 but continue with “one hundred and ….”

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: The teacher reviews how to read and write numbers up to 200 in both numerals and words.
Learners are reminded that numbers above 100 continue the same counting pattern.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Learners write the numeral and word for 154 and 200.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write the numerals and words for: 112, 136, 149, 175, and 199.

Follow-up Activity:
Learners practice with family members at home by reading and writing house numbers or calendar dates above 100.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide number charts for learners who need extra support.
Pair faster learners with slower ones for the number word spelling activity.
