Date: Week 11
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 11, Period 2
Topic: Numerals, Place Value, and Fractions
Sub-topic: Application and Integration of Concepts
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Read and write numbers correctly
Identify place value of digits
Expand numbers
Identify and write basic fractions
Previous Knowledge
Students already learned numerals up to 200, place value, expanded form, and fractions.
Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook for Grade 2, number cards, worksheets, fraction charts
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Quick class game: teacher calls numbers and learners write them on the board in numerals, expanded form, and fractions.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Integration of all skills learned:
Reading/writing numbers up to 200
Identifying place values of digits in numbers
Expanding numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones
Recognizing fractions like ½, ⅓, ¼
Examples:
Read 142 → one hundred forty-two
Place value: 527 → 5 = 500, 2 = 20, 7 = 7
Expanded form: 305 = 300 + 0 + 5
Fraction: half of a cake = ½
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Solve mixed worksheets with all concepts.
Group quiz competition with questions from Weeks 7–10.
Peer teaching: groups teach one topic each.
Assessment Checks:
Oral and written: read 156, expand 472, identify fraction of shaded diagram.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
All mathematical concepts work together. Place value helps in expanded form, and reading numbers connects to fractions when dividing wholes.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher leads class in a review of all concepts with short problem-solving tasks.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip: Write the expanded form of 248 and the fraction for one part out of 3 equal parts.
Assignment (Expanded):
Mixed practice worksheet: read/write numbers, place value, expanded form, and fractions.
Follow-up Activity:
Learners create their own math quiz at home using numbers and fractions.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Assign peer tutors for weaker learners.
Provide visual aids and manipulatives.
