Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook for Grade 2
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher plays a “Quick Fire” game with simple addition, subtraction, and multiplication questions.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Students solve mixed problems combining addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
Example 1: 46 + 38 = ?
Example 2: 72 − 48 = ?
Example 3: 3 × 4 = ?
Example 4: A family has 26 boys and 34 girls. How many in total?
Example 5: A class has 45 pupils. 18 left. How many remain?
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Group quiz competition solving mixed questions.
Peer-led revision circles where groups teach each other.
Class practice worksheet with mixed operations.
Assessment Checks:
Solve 64 + 28, 71 − 36, 2 × 9.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
All operations can be applied in real life: adding populations, subtracting items, or multiplying groups.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Addition, subtraction, and multiplication are connected. Regrouping helps in accurate solutions.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit quiz: 5 mixed questions.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded):
Solve: 56 + 39, 83 − 47, 4 × 3. Write a word problem involving subtraction.
Follow-up Activity:
Students practice all operations at home and prepare for assessment.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Struggling learners attempt only one operation per problem. Advanced learners try 3-digit sums and harder multiplications.
