Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 28, Period 5
Topic: Time
Sub-topic: Time Telling (Daily Routine and Clock Time)
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify morning, afternoon, evening, and night
Tell time to the hour and half-hour
Previous Knowledge
Students already know about daily routines such as waking up, going to school, and sleeping.
Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook for Grade 2, paper clock models, classroom clock.
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “What do you do in the morning? What do you do at night?” Learners answer with daily activities.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
A day has morning, afternoon, evening, and night.
A clock shows time. The short hand shows the hour, and the long hand shows the minutes.
When the long hand is at 12, it is the exact hour. Example: If the short hand is at 7 and the long hand is at 12, it is 7 o’clock.
When the long hand is at 6, it is half past the hour. Example: If the short hand is between 3 and 4, and the long hand is at 6, it is half past 3.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Learners use paper clock models to show 5 o’clock and half past 2.
Learners match activities to times (sleeping at 9 p.m., eating breakfast at 7 a.m.).
Learners practice drawing clock hands.
Assessment Checks:
What does the short hand show?
What does the long hand show?
What time is it if the short hand is at 4 and the long hand is at 12?
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Time is important for organizing daily activities. Morning is a.m., night is p.m. Knowing time helps with school, prayer, and family routines.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: We use clocks to tell time. The short hand shows the hour, and the long hand shows minutes. We can tell time to the hour and half-hour.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Draw the hands of a clock showing 8 o’clock. Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded):
At home, check the time before going to bed and write it down.
Follow-up Activity:
In the next class, learners bring drawings of clocks with different times.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Struggling learners will work with teacher guidance. Fast learners will try to read quarter hours.
