School Name:
Teacher’s Name:
Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 2
Date: Week 14
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 14, Period 3
Topic: Exercise for Physical Fitness
Sub-topic: Types of Exercises and Their Importance

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify and describe different types of exercises. Demonstrate stretching, bending, twisting, jogging, and simple calisthenics. Explain the importance of regular exercise for the body. Perform a short routine combining different exercises.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know that exercise makes the body active and that they can stretch or bend during play.

Instructional Materials
Whistle, skipping ropes, mats, cones, music (for rhythm), and open space for movement.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher asks learners to stand and follow quick stretches—arms up, side bends, and light jogging in place. Teacher then asks, “What exercises do you do at home or during play?” Students respond briefly.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanation:

  • Exercise is any activity that makes the body work and stay fit.
  • Types of exercises:
    • Stretching: Making the body long, e.g., reaching arms overhead, touching toes
    • Bending: Moving body parts forward or sideways, e.g., side bends, waist bends
    • Twisting: Turning the body left and right, e.g., trunk rotations
    • Jogging: Slow running to increase heart rate and endurance
    • Calisthenics: Simple movements like jumping jacks, squats, or arm circles

Importance of Exercise:

  • Strengthens heart, muscles, and bones
  • Makes the body flexible
  • Improves breathing and endurance
  • Helps children grow healthy and strong

Demonstration:

  • Teacher demonstrates each exercise step by step:
    • Stretch arms overhead, reach toes
    • Side bends left and right
    • Trunk twists slowly
    • Jog in place
    • Perform jumping jacks and squats
  • Emphasize correct posture, slow movements, and breathing

Practical Activity:

  • Learners perform each exercise following the teacher’s demonstration
  • Combine exercises into a short fitness routine:
    • 1 minute jogging
    • 5 jumping jacks
    • 3 side bends each side
    • 10 seconds twisting
  • Encourage learners to move safely and steadily

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Perform each exercise carefully, copying the teacher’s movements
  • Combine exercises into a mini fitness routine
  • Discuss orally: “Why is exercise important?” and give examples from home or school
  • Encourage classmates and share tips for proper movements

Assessment Checks:

  • Ask learners to name and demonstrate exercises correctly
  • Oral questions:
    • “Which exercise involves turning the body?”
    • “Why is jogging good for us?”
  • Observe learners’ posture, safety, and participation

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Stretching helps improve flexibility and reduces stiffness
  • Bending strengthens waist and back muscles
  • Twisting keeps the body loose and agile
  • Jogging improves heart health, endurance, and overall fitness
  • Calisthenics builds strength, coordination, and stamina
  • Regular exercise keeps children healthy, active, and strong, supporting growth and participation in daily activities and games

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews exercises by naming them and asking learners to show each one. Learners repeat the routine once more together.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: 1. Mention two types of exercises. 2. Why is jogging important? 3. Show me one calisthenics movement. Teacher checks slips and gives oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Practice two types of exercises at home for five minutes each day and share experience in next class.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will apply fitness skills in classroom games.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners with physical difficulty will do simpler versions, such as seated stretches instead of jogging. Peer support is encouraged. All learners are praised for effort.
