Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 29, Period 5
Topic: Games – Manipulative
Sub-topic: Bounce Netball

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Demonstrate throwing, catching, and bouncing skills in Bounce Netball. Work cooperatively in pairs or small groups. Explain the importance of fair play, safety, and teamwork during manipulative games.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know basic ball handling skills, teamwork, and safety rules from previous manipulative and locomotor games.

Instructional Materials
Balls, cones, markers, picture charts showing rules of Bounce Netball, open play space.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher leads light jogging, arm circles, and ball-handling warm-ups. Learners discuss experiences with ball games and share strategies for throwing and catching.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanation:

  • Bounce Netball: A manipulative game where learners throw, catch, and bounce a ball to teammates.
  • Importance: Improves hand-eye coordination, timing, teamwork, and communication.
  • Rules & Safety:
    • Follow instructions carefully
    • Take turns and wait for your opportunity
    • Avoid pushing or throwing the ball too hard
    • Encourage peers and play fairly

Demonstration:

  • Teacher shows proper technique for throwing, catching, and bouncing the ball.
  • Teacher demonstrates safe passing in pairs and small groups.
  • Teacher highlights correct stance, eye focus, and hand position for accuracy.

Practical Activity:

  • Learners practice throwing, catching, and bouncing in pairs.
  • Small-group games are played where learners pass the ball to teammates following the rules.
  • Teacher provides feedback on technique, safety, and coordination.
  • Reflection discussion: learners share strategies to improve accuracy and teamwork.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Perform repeated throwing and catching exercises.
  • Practice bouncing the ball at controlled speed.
  • Engage in small-group games applying all skills.
  • Discuss orally: “Which throw was easiest?” “How does teamwork help your game?”

Assessment Checks:

  • Teacher observes proper ball-handling technique and safety adherence.
  • Checks for correct passing, catching, and bouncing.
  • Questions:
    • “How do you throw the ball accurately?”
    • “Why is teamwork important in Bounce Netball?”
    • “Which part of your body helps you control the ball?”

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Bounce Netball develops hand-eye coordination, timing, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
  • Small-group practice ensures all learners participate actively.
  • Emphasis on safety and fair play prevents injuries and promotes positive social interaction.
  • Reflection after play encourages learners to self-assess and improve skills.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Learners demonstrate a throw and catch sequence safely. Teacher reviews key skills, teamwork, and safety rules.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Learners answer: 1. Name one skill practiced in Bounce Netball. 2. Why is fair play important? 3. How does teamwork help in manipulative games? Teacher collects slips and provides oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Learners practice throwing and catching with a family member at home and reflect on improvements in coordination and accuracy.

Follow-up Activity:
Next unit will review and combine physical fitness, locomotor, manipulative, and game skills in preparation for end-of-term assessment.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners with limited hand-eye coordination can perform slower throws or assist teammates. Peer guidance ensures inclusivity and confidence-building.
