  1. Define Physical Education.
  2. State briefly the history and importance of Physical Education.
  3. Explain the importance of health.
  4. List and practice basic personal hygiene habits.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know basic body parts and have observed activities such as washing hands and brushing teeth.
Instructional Materials
Flashcards, pictures of children exercising, soap, toothbrush, posters showing hygiene practices.
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher greets learners and asks: “What do you do every morning before coming to school?” The teacher shows pictures of children brushing their teeth and playing outside, then asks students to identify what they see. Short stretches are done together to prepare for learning.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Definition of Physical Education:
Physical Education (P.E.) is the training of the body and mind through games, exercises, and physical activities to make us strong, healthy, and active. It is not just about playing; it is about learning how to move safely, cooperate with others, and keep the body in good shape.

  • Examples: Running, skipping, jumping, hopping, throwing, catching, balancing, simple team games like tag or relay races.
  • Explanation for learners: “When we play games or exercise, our heart, muscles, and brain all get stronger. PE helps us feel happy, focused, and ready to learn.”

History and Importance of Physical Education:

  • Long ago, people exercised to stay strong for farming, hunting, and protecting themselves.
  • Today, schools include P.E. to help children develop strong bodies, healthy minds, and good social skills.
  • Importance:
  1. Improves strength, flexibility, and stamina
  2. Promotes teamwork, sharing, and fairness
  3. Reduces sickness and keeps the body active
  4. Helps learners focus better in class
  • Demonstration: Show a short movement sequence (stretching arms, touching toes, side bends) and explain how each activity strengthens different body parts.

Importance of Health:

  • Health means the body and mind work well, free from sickness.
  • Being healthy allows children to:
    • Learn better
    • Play without getting tired quickly
    • Grow strong and tall
    • Avoid frequent illness
  • Examples: Eating fruits and vegetables, drinking clean water, getting enough sleep, exercising daily.
  • Practical Activity: Ask learners to mime daily health activities—brushing teeth, drinking water, eating healthy foods, stretching in the morning.

Personal Hygiene:

  • Personal hygiene is keeping our body clean to prevent germs and sickness.
  • Habits include:
  1. Bathing daily
  2. Brushing teeth twice a day
  3. Washing hands before eating and after using the toilet
  4. Wearing clean clothes
  5. Keeping nails short and clean
  • Demonstration: Teacher shows proper handwashing steps: wet hands, apply soap, rub palms, between fingers, under nails, rinse, dry. Invite 2 students to demonstrate for the class.
  • Practical Activity: Whole class practices the steps together. Then, learners perform “brush teeth” and “wash hands” actions in pairs.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Watch teacher demonstrations carefully and repeat actions.
  • Answer guided questions:
    • “What is Physical Education?”
    • “Why is it important to exercise?”
    • “Name two personal hygiene habits you practice at home.”
  • Practice short stretching exercises in groups (touch toes, side bends, arm circles).
  • Pair learners to demonstrate personal hygiene routines like handwashing or brushing teeth.
  • Share one favorite physical activity and explain why it helps them stay healthy.

Assessment Checks (Expanded):

  • Ask learners to define Physical Education in their own words.
  • Learners list at least three personal hygiene practices and explain why they are important.
  • Observe learners performing stretching exercises—are they doing them safely?
  • Quick verbal quiz: “Which activity keeps your heart strong—running, sleeping, or sitting all day?”
  • Peer assessment: Learners check each other’s handwashing steps.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Physical Education: Care of the body through exercises, games, and movement to build strength, coordination, and mental alertness.
  • Health: Being free from sickness and having a body and mind that function properly.
  • Personal Hygiene: Clean habits like bathing, brushing teeth, washing hands, and wearing clean clothes protect against germs and help us grow strong.
  • Regular practice of P.E., healthy eating, and hygiene keeps children energetic, happy, and ready to learn.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: The teacher revises the meaning of P.E., the importance of health, and examples of personal hygiene with learners.

Evaluation Method (Expanded): Exit slip/quiz: Each child will say one thing they learned about health or hygiene. Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded): Draw one way you take care of your health at home (e.g., brushing, bathing, playing).
Follow-up Activity: Practice handwashing before meals and after playing. Report in the next class how often you did it.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Visual aids are provided for learners with difficulty in understanding oral explanations. Pair stronger learners with weaker ones for group activities.
