Grade Level: Grade 2
Date: Week 21
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 21, Period 4
Topic: Locomotor and Manipulative Games
Sub-topic: Fragile Rock and Borden Ball

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Demonstrate locomotor movements through Fragile Rock. Perform manipulative skills using Borden Ball, including catching, throwing, and rolling. Work safely and cooperatively in game stations. Explain the importance of coordination, teamwork, and safety in games.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know locomotor movements such as hopping, skipping, and running, and can handle objects like balls during play.

Instructional Materials
Balls, cones or markers for stations, open space, picture charts showing game rules.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher leads a 3-minute jog followed by arm and leg stretches. The teacher asks learners to recall movements from previous lessons and demonstrates a slow hop in place to prepare for Fragile Rock.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanation:

  • Fragile Rock is a locomotor game where learners move carefully across a space without stepping on marked spots.
  • Importance: Develops balance, body control, careful movement, and spatial awareness
  • Borden Ball is a manipulative game involving catching, throwing, or rolling a ball.
  • Importance: Improves hand-eye coordination, strength, teamwork, and focus
  • Safety rules:
    • Do not push or rush
    • Wait for your turn
    • Move carefully
    • Encourage peers

Demonstration:

  • Teacher demonstrates Fragile Rock by hopping or stepping over marked spots
  • Teacher demonstrates Borden Ball with volunteers: catching, rolling, and throwing
  • Teacher explains safe handling of balls and careful movement

Practical Activity:

  • Learners rotate through stations:
    • Station 1: Fragile Rock hopping and stepping carefully
    • Station 2: Borden Ball – throwing, catching, and rolling
  • Encourage learners to help each other and cheer teammates
  • Reflect on which skills improve coordination and teamwork

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Practice hopping, stepping, throwing, catching, and rolling in turns
  • Observe peers and give supportive feedback
  • Share orally: “Which skill was easiest? Which was hardest?”
  • Discuss how balance and coordination help in daily activities and sports

Assessment Checks:

  • Teacher observes:
    • Correct locomotor movements in Fragile Rock
    • Proper ball handling in Borden Ball
    • Safe participation and teamwork
  • Oral questions:
    • “How do you move carefully in Fragile Rock?”
    • “What skill helps you catch the ball properly?”
  • Check learners’ ability to follow rules and encourage peers

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Fragile Rock enhances balance, careful stepping, and awareness of surroundings
  • Borden Ball improves hand-eye coordination, strength, focus, and teamwork
  • Both games reinforce safety, patience, cooperative play, and confidence
  • Learners develop physical control, coordination, and social skills while having fun

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Learners demonstrate one locomotor and one manipulative skill. Teacher reviews safety rules and teamwork benefits.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: 1. Name one locomotor game. 2. Name one manipulative game. 3. How does teamwork help in these games?

Assignment (Expanded):
Practice hopping and rolling a ball at home, noting which skill was easiest and hardest.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will focus on stunts and tumbling for balance, posture, and confidence.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners with mobility difficulties can perform smaller or slower movements. Peer support is encouraged at each station.
