School Name:
Teacher’s Name:
Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 2
Date: Week 17
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 17, Period 3
Topic: Manipulative Games and Screening Practice
Sub-topic: Handling Objects and Testing Body Fitness

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Identify manipulative games. Demonstrate handling objects through throwing, catching, rolling, and kicking. Carry out simple fitness screening exercises using games. Explain importance of teamwork and self-assessment in games.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know how to throw and catch balls during play.

Instructional Materials
Whistle, balls of different sizes, cones, mats, and open play area.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher asks learners to recall the last lesson on locomotor games. Quick warm-up with jogging and arm circles. Teacher shows a ball and asks, “What can we do with this object?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanation:

  • Manipulative games involve handling objects using hands or feet.
  • Examples: Throwing, catching, rolling, and kicking
  • Importance: Develop hand-eye coordination, strength, flexibility, endurance, and teamwork

Demonstration:

  • Teacher demonstrates each activity slowly:
    • Throwing a ball to a partner
    • Catching safely
    • Rolling a ball along the floor
    • Kicking a ball through cones
  • Teacher then introduces mini fitness screening using these games:
    • Endurance: Learners jog while passing a ball around a circle
    • Strength: Rolling a heavier ball or doing simple push-ups
    • Coordination: Throwing and catching with a partner
    • Flexibility: Stretching to catch low or high balls
  • Emphasize teamwork, safety, and fun

Practical Activity:

  • Learners practice in pairs or small groups:
    • Throw and catch balls
    • Roll balls through marked cones
    • Kick balls toward targets
  • Participate in mini games that test endurance, coordination, flexibility, and strength
  • Encourage learners to observe peers and give feedback safely

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Practice manipulative skills carefully and safely
  • Take turns performing each activity in pairs or groups
  • Reflect verbally: “Which activity was easiest? Which was hardest?”
  • Discuss how the games helped them understand their fitness levels

Assessment Checks:

  • Observe technique, control, and safety in handling objects
  • Ask orally:
    • “What is a manipulative game?”
    • “Which activity tested your endurance?”
    • “How did teamwork help during these games?”
  • Check learners’ participation and ability to follow instructions

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Manipulative games improve skills like throwing, catching, rolling, and kicking
  • These games enhance strength, coordination, flexibility, and endurance
  • Fitness screening through manipulative games helps learners understand their fitness level in a fun and engaging way
  • Emphasizing teamwork, fair play, and safety ensures positive learning experiences
  • Regular practice supports healthy growth, active participation, and confidence in physical activities

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Learners recall definition of manipulative games and their examples. Learners show one manipulative skill each. Teacher reinforces connection to body screening.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: 1. Define manipulative games. 2. Mention two examples. 3. Why do we screen our bodies during games?

Assignment (Expanded):
At home, practice throwing and catching a ball 10 times with a sibling or parent.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will build on these skills with new games and advanced screening checks.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners with difficulty in catching may use larger, softer balls. Teacher pairs weaker learners with supportive peers. Effort is praised more than accuracy.
