Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 19, Period 4
Topic: Personal Hygiene
Sub-topic: Introduction to Personal Hygiene

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Define personal hygiene. Identify important body parts that need care such as hands, feet, mouth, hair, eyes, ears, and nose. Describe ways to care for each body part through washing, brushing, trimming, and cleaning. Explain why caring for body parts prevents sickness, keeps us healthy, and builds confidence.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know that bathing keeps the body clean and that dirty hands can spread germs.

Instructional Materials
Soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, towel, nail cutter, picture charts of body parts, and clean water.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher begins with a quick question: “What did you do to stay clean this morning before coming to school?” Learners respond with answers such as bathing, brushing, or washing. The teacher praises their responses and connects the discussion to the topic of personal hygiene.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanation:

  • Personal hygiene is the practice of keeping our body clean and healthy every day.
  • Body parts to care for most: hands, feet, mouth, hair, eyes, ears, and nose
  • How to care for each part:
    • Hands: Wash properly with soap and water before eating and after using the toilet
    • Mouth: Brush teeth morning and night with a toothbrush
    • Hair: Comb and keep neat every day
    • Ears & Nose: Clean gently to remove dirt
    • Feet: Wash and trim nails to prevent germs

Importance of Personal Hygiene:

  • Prevents sickness and infections
  • Keeps the body healthy and clean
  • Helps learners feel confident and neat
  • Relates to daily life examples: washing hands before meals, brushing teeth twice daily, trimming nails weekly, and bathing regularly

Demonstration:

  • Teacher demonstrates:
    • Proper handwashing with soap and water
    • Brushing teeth with an imaginary toothbrush
    • Combing hair neatly
    • Gentle cleaning of ears and nose
    • Washing feet and trimming nails
  • Learners follow step by step, copying the teacher’s actions

Practical Activity:

  • Learners practice handwashing steps using soap and water
  • Learners demonstrate brushing movements using imaginary toothbrushes
  • Role-play combing hair and trimming nails
  • Discuss why personal hygiene is important

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Perform hygiene demonstrations correctly
  • Share orally examples of how they care for their body daily
  • Encourage classmates and give feedback during role-play
  • Reflect on how being clean makes them feel confident and healthy

Assessment Checks:

  • Observe learners’ correctness and participation in demonstrations
  • Oral questions:
    • “What is personal hygiene?”
    • “Which body part do we brush every day?”
    • “Why must we wash our hands often?”

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Personal hygiene means taking care of our body to stay clean, healthy, and confident
  • Main body parts to care for: hands, feet, mouth, hair, eyes, ears, nose
  • Proper hygiene practices:
    • Wash hands before eating and after using the toilet
    • Brush teeth morning and night
    • Comb hair daily
    • Clean ears and nose gently
    • Wash feet and trim nails regularly
  • Hygiene prevents sickness, keeps us neat, and boosts confidence
  • Daily routines help learners develop good habits that support lifelong health

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: The teacher reviews by asking learners to define personal hygiene, name the body parts to care for, and describe one way to care for each. Learners demonstrate handwashing or brushing as a closing activity.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Learners answer short questions such as: 1. What is personal hygiene? 2. Mention two body parts to care for. 3. State one reason why personal hygiene is important. Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Learners will write or share at home how many times they brushed their teeth and washed their hands in one day, and report in the next class.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will connect hygiene to classroom games, showing how teamwork and healthy habits are linked.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners with weaker writing skills may give oral responses instead of written ones. Practical demonstrations will be used to support learners with limited reading ability. All learners will be encouraged and praised for effort.
