Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 2
Date: Week 25
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 25, Period 5
Topic: Physical Fitness
Sub-topic: Introduction to Physical Fitness

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Define physical fitness. Measure height and weight safely. Explain why physical fitness is important. Perform simple exercises to observe changes in posture.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know basic exercises such as stretching, hopping, and jogging, and understand the concept of staying healthy through activity.

Instructional Materials
Measuring tape, weighing scale, mats, cones, chalk, markers, charts showing posture exercises.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher begins with a brief discussion: “Who has exercised today? How do you feel after moving your body?” Learners respond. The teacher leads light stretching and jogging in place to prepare learners for practical activities.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanation:

  • Physical Fitness: The ability of the body to perform daily activities efficiently and stay healthy.
  • Importance: Improves strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance.
  • Measurement of Height: Using a measuring tape against a wall; ensuring proper posture (standing tall, heels together, head straight).
  • Measurement of Weight: Using a scale safely; recording numbers accurately.
  • Posture Exercises: Standing tall, bending forward, side stretches to observe body alignment.
  • Purpose: Understanding how maintaining physical fitness helps the heart, muscles, bones, and overall health.

Demonstration:

  • Teacher shows step-by-step height measurement against a wall and recording results.
  • Teacher demonstrates safe weight measurement on a scale.
  • Simple posture exercises are performed by the teacher to show correct alignment.

Practical Activity:

  • Learners practice measuring height and weight in pairs, observing posture changes.
  • Learners perform mini posture exercises: standing tall, side bends, and stretching arms overhead.
  • Reflection: learners discuss how physical fitness helps in daily activities, schoolwork, and play.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Measure each other’s height and weight carefully under teacher supervision.
  • Practice posture exercises and compare alignment before and after.
  • Discuss orally: “Why is it important to know our height and weight?” “Which exercise made you feel taller or stronger?”

Assessment Checks:

  • Teacher observes: correct measurement techniques, safe handling of equipment, and proper exercise form.
  • Oral questions:
    • “What is physical fitness?”
    • “Why do we need to measure our height and weight?”
    • “Which posture exercise did you enjoy most?”

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Physical fitness helps the body work well in daily life and play.
  • Measuring height and weight tracks growth and health progress.
  • Posture exercises improve balance, flexibility, and strength.
  • Safe measurement and exercise practices prevent injury and promote confidence.
  • Observing changes in posture helps learners understand body alignment, fitness levels, and the importance of daily physical activity.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Learners share one new fact about physical fitness and demonstrate one posture exercise. The teacher reviews the importance of being fit and maintaining good posture.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Learners answer: 1. Define physical fitness. 2. Name one way to measure height or weight. 3. Mention one exercise that improves posture. Teacher collects slips and provides oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Learners measure their height and weight at home with help from a family member and report any changes next class.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will focus on basic physical fitness assessments for boys and girls, observing differences in strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners who find exercises difficult can perform modified versions or sit for posture observation. Peer support is encouraged, and demonstrations are repeated for learners who need extra guidance.
