Simple prayer postures

Storybook examples of public and private prayer

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask learners: “Where do you pray at home? Where can we pray outside the home?” Discuss answers.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Content/Explanation:

  • Begin by explaining the difference between private prayer and public prayer:
    • Private prayer is done quietly, alone, at home, in the bedroom, or during personal quiet time.
    • Public prayer is done aloud, with others, in places like church, the classroom, or other gatherings.
  • Demonstrate respectful prayer posture: kneeling, folding hands, and bowing the head slightly. Explain that posture helps us focus and show respect to God.
  • Conduct role-play scenarios:
    • Prayer at home (private, quiet voice)
    • Prayer in classroom (group prayer, loud enough for all to hear)
    • Prayer in church (formal, respectful posture)
  • Lead a discussion on why prayer should be respectful, sincere, and consistent wherever we are, emphasizing that God listens both in private and public moments.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Observe the teacher’s demonstration of private and public prayer postures.
  • Practice silent prayers individually and loud prayers in groups.
  • Participate in role-play exercises, taking turns to act out different prayer settings.
  • Discuss in small groups the reasons and benefits of praying in different places.

Assessment Checks:

  • Observe learners’ posture, hand folding, and tone during both silent and loud prayers.
  • Ask learners to name two places they can pray and explain why those times or places are appropriate.
  • Check learners’ understanding during the discussion by listening to their reasons for respectful prayer.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Emphasize that praying both privately and publicly is important for spiritual growth and building a relationship with God.
  • Encourage respectful and attentive behavior during all prayers, whether at home, school, or church.
  • Highlight that consistency in prayer helps learners remember God daily and build good habits.
  • Suggest that learners create a simple daily prayer routine at home, including morning and bedtime prayers.
  • Reinforce the idea that posture and sincerity matter more than length of prayer.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Prayer can be private or public, but it is important to pray respectfully everywhere.

Evaluation Method (Expanded)
