Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)

Ask learners if they have ever seen someone being treated unfairly and how it made them feel.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Content focus:
- Discrimination:
- Definition: Treating someone unfairly or differently because of who they are.
- Types of discrimination:
- Age: Ignoring or belittling young or elderly people.
- Gender: Giving unfair treatment based on being a boy or girl.
- Disability: Excluding people with physical or learning disabilities.
- HIV status (PLHIV): Treating someone poorly because they have a disease.
- Effects of discrimination:
- Individual: Low self-esteem, sadness, lack of opportunity.
- Family: Stress, tension, and reduced support.
- Community/Society: Weakens cooperation, increases conflict, reduces development and fairness.
- Practical activity: Role-play scenarios where learners show inclusion, fairness, and helping someone who is often excluded.
Teaching strategies & aids:
- Use pictures, storybooks, or flashcards showing fair and unfair treatment.
- Conduct guided discussion on how it feels to be treated unfairly and how to treat others kindly.
- Share simple real-life examples learners can relate to, such as including classmates in games or helping someone who is left out.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
- Identify discrimination: Look at pictures and point out unfair treatment.
- Role-play: Act out scenarios demonstrating inclusion and fairness, e.g., inviting a disabled classmate to play or sharing resources equally.
- Discussion: Talk in pairs about how people feel when discriminated against and how actions can change that.
- Reflection: Share personal experiences of feeling included or excluded and what made the difference.
Assessment Checks (Expanded):
- Oral questioning: Ask learners to explain one effect of discrimination on a person.
- Observation: Watch role-play for demonstration of inclusion, fairness, and empathy.
- Participation: Note learners’ engagement and ability to identify unfair treatment and propose solutions.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
- Emphasize that discrimination harms individuals, families, and communities by creating sadness, conflict, and inequality.
- Highlight that inclusion, respect, and fairness make people feel valued and strengthen the community.
- Reinforce that learners can practice kindness and fairness daily in school, at home, and in the community.
- Encourage learners to notice situations where someone is being left out and take action to include them.
Optional Extension/Assignment:
- Ask learners to draw a “fairness poster” showing how to include everyone in class or community activities.
- Encourage learners to write 2–3 sentences about a time they included someone and how it made that person feel.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap the effects of discrimination and importance of fairness.
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: learners write one type of discrimination and one way to be fair.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded)
