A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask learners to name people who live in their community. Discuss different appearances, clothing, and languages. Introduce the three groups in Liberia.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Content focus:

  • The three groups of people in Liberia:
    • Indigenous peoples: Original inhabitants of Liberia; live in villages and towns; practice traditional customs, farming, and local crafts.
    • Settlers: Freed Africans from the Americas and the Caribbean who settled in Liberia; contributed to urban development, governance, and education.
    • Other Africans: Immigrants from neighboring African countries; contribute to trade, farming, and cultural diversity.
  • Cultural practices and contributions:
    • Indigenous peoples: Traditional music, dances, farming methods, community leadership.
    • Settlers: Building schools, churches, civic institutions, trade practices.
    • Other Africans: Farming techniques, markets, cultural festivals, cuisine.
  • Teaching aids: Use stories, pictures, flashcards, and local examples to illustrate each group and their contributions.

  • Discussion: Talk in pairs or small groups about cultural practices and contributions of each group.

  • Storytelling: Listen to short stories about interactions between these groups in Liberian history.
