Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask: “Que fait ton père ? Que fait ta mère ?”
Learner’s Role:
Respond orally, recall family vocabulary and roles.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
Begin by explaining common family roles using simple, clear sentences such as “Le père travaille” (The father works), “La mère cuisine” (The mother cooks), “Le frère joue” (The brother plays), and “La sœur étudie” (The sister studies). Use pictures or drawings to illustrate these roles and reinforce meaning. Model how to build sentences that combine the verbs aimer and avoir with these roles, for example: “J’aime ma mère. Elle a deux enfants.” Emphasize correct sentence structure and verb agreement. Facilitate a matching activity where learners link family members (le père, la mère, etc.) with their typical roles using flashcards or charts. Guide learners to create sentences describing what each family member does and what they like about them. Support learners through scaffolding sentence formation with prompts and examples.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)
Engage in matching exercises by pairing family member cards with role cards. Write simple sentences describing family members and their activities, e.g., “Mon père travaille,” or “J’aime mon frère.” Practice speaking these sentences aloud individually and in pairs. Participate in role-play scenarios simulating daily family routines, using aimer and avoir to describe preferences and possessions, such as “J’aime ma mère. Elle a un bébé.”
Assessment Checks
Observe learners for correct sentence construction, appropriate verb use (aimer and avoir), and fluency in oral expression during activities and role-plays. Provide immediate corrective feedback as needed.
Peer Review
In pairs, learners share their sentences and role-play dialogues. Partners listen carefully and offer feedback on grammar and pronunciation, helping each other improve accuracy.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
Reinforce previously learned vocabulary and grammar points by integrating family member names, verbs aimer and avoir, and common daily activities. Encourage learners to speak in full sentences and express personal feelings about their family members. Use visuals and physical movement during role-plays to maintain engagement.
Assignment (Homework)
Write a short paragraph describing your family members’ roles and what you like about each of them. For example: “Mon père travaille dans un bureau. J’aime mon père parce qu’il est gentil.” Encourage learners to use both verbs aimer and avoir along with family vocabulary.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
• Exit slip/quiz: Write 2 sentences describing a family member’s role.
• Follow-up Activity: Oral presentation of family roles in small groups.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
Provide visual prompts for learners needing support; allow sentence starters for struggling writers.
Teacher’s Reflection:
• What worked well? Integration of verbs, vocabulary, and role descriptions.
• What needs improvement? More support for learners struggling with complex sentences.
• Students’ engagement level: ☑ High ☑ Medium ☐ Low
