Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• What activities do we do in the kitchen?
• Where do we sleep or clean?

Learner’s Role:
• Answer orally and recall vocabulary

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
Begin by introducing key verbs related to household activities: laver (to wash), dormir (to sleep), manger (to eat), préparer (to prepare), nettoyer (to clean). Write the infinitive forms clearly on the board and pronounce each verb slowly, emphasizing the ending sounds and the “r” sound typical of French verbs.

Explain the meaning of each verb with simple examples and gestures:

  • Laver means to wash (hands, clothes, dishes).
  • Dormir means to sleep.
  • Manger means to eat.
  • Préparer means to prepare (usually food).
  • Nettoyer means to clean.

Demonstrate conjugation in the simple present tense for il/elle/on (third person singular, commonly used in spoken French for general statements):

  • “On dort dans la chambre.” (We/One sleeps in the bedroom.)
  • “Mama prépare dans la cuisine.” (Mama prepares in the kitchen.)
Also introduce je and tu forms for some variety:
  • Je mange dans la cuisine.
  • Tu nettoies le salon.

Model oral repetition of verbs with their conjugated forms. Write example sentences on the board and read them aloud, encouraging learners to repeat after you. Use pictures or realia to connect verbs with rooms and actions, e.g., a picture of someone sleeping in a bedroom when saying “On dort dans la chambre.”

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Learners repeat the infinitive verbs and their conjugated forms aloud after the teacher, focusing on pronunciation and rhythm.
  • Practice conjugating verbs orally with different subjects (je, tu, il/elle/on) using call-and-response.
  • Link verbs to rooms by making short sentences aloud, e.g., “On mange dans la cuisine,” “Je lave dans la salle de bain.”
  • Work in pairs to build simple sentences combining rooms and verbs using flashcards or sentence strips. For example, one learner says “On dort dans…” and the partner completes “la chambre.”
  • Encourage learners to create original sentences using the verbs and rooms they have learned.

Assessment Checks

  • Observe learners’ oral production of verbs in sentences during pair activities and class repetition.
  • Ask random learners to make short oral sentences linking a verb and a room, checking for correct conjugation and word order.
  • Provide immediate correction or positive reinforcement to guide accuracy.

Peer Review

  • In pairs, learners quiz each other by showing a flashcard of a room or an activity and asking the partner to say a sentence using the correct verb and room.
  • Encourage partners to listen attentively and offer gentle corrections if needed.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Emphasize the regularity and patterns in verb conjugation for better learner retention.
  • Encourage learners to use more than one verb in their sentences for complexity, e.g., “On mange dans la cuisine et on dort dans la chambre.”
  • Use gestures, real-life examples, and visuals consistently to reinforce meaning and retention.

Assignment (Homework)

  • Write five sentences describing daily activities done in different rooms, using the verbs learned (e.g., “Je mange dans la cuisine,” “On nettoie le salon”).
  • Encourage correct spelling, verb conjugation, and sentence structure.
  • Optional: draw a small picture next to each sentence to illustrate the activity and room described.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
• Exit slip/quiz: Conjugate 2 verbs in simple sentences
• Follow-up Activity: Oral practice in pairs

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
• Provide verb charts for learners needing visual support
