Date: Week 17
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 17, Period 3
Topic: Closure Property and Multiplication with Factors < 100
Sub-topic: Demonstrating Closure Property and Multiplication Drills
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
State and apply closure property for addition and multiplication
Multiply whole numbers with factors less than 100
Apply multiplication to real-life problems
Previous Knowledge
Students already know how to multiply numbers less than 20.
Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook, multiplication charts, counters, flashcards
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: What is 15 + 25? Is the result still a whole number? What about 9 × 8? Teacher introduces closure property.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher explains closure property: When we add or multiply any two whole numbers, the result is always a whole number. Example: 12 + 15 = 27 (a whole number), 7 × 9 = 63 (a whole number).
Teacher demonstrates multiplication strategies for factors < 100 using times tables and vertical multiplication. Example: 56 × 8 = 448.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Students make tables of sums and products to prove closure property.
Students solve timed multiplication drills.
Students create multiplication story problems in groups.
Assessment Checks:
Check answers for problems such as 34 + 29, 45 × 7, 78 × 9.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
The closure property proves that whole numbers remain whole when added or multiplied. Multiplying with factors less than 100 helps build speed and accuracy.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews closure property and efficient multiplication strategies.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Solve 37 + 45, 23 × 8, 15 × 12.
Assignment (Expanded):
Complete multiplication drills of 20 problems with factors under 100.
Follow-up Activity:
Students design 5 real-life multiplication story problems at home.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide multiplication charts for weaker learners, challenge faster learners with higher-order drills.
