Date: Week 11
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 11, Period 2
Topic: Ordering Fractions and Review of Whole Numbers
Sub-topic: Ordering unit fractions and revising numbers up to 1000

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Arrange unit fractions in ascending and descending order
Consolidate understanding of numbers up to 1000
Apply knowledge of place value and expanded forms in exercises

Previous Knowledge
Students already know how to compare unit fractions and write whole numbers up to 1000

Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook for Grade 3, fraction strips, number line, flashcards with numbers and fractions

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher displays flashcards with fractions (½, ⅓, ¼, ⅙) and asks learners to quickly state which is biggest and which is smallest.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
The teacher explains ordering of fractions: to order unit fractions, arrange by denominator size. Smaller denominators mean larger fractions. Example:
½ > ⅓ > ¼ > ⅙
The teacher uses a number line to arrange fractions correctly. The class then reviews whole numbers: reading, writing, place value, and expanded notation. Mixed exercises are given: write 746 in words, expand 5089, order 1/2, 1/4, 1/3, and 1/6.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
Students play the “Fraction Train” game where each fraction is placed in correct order on tracks. Groups solve mixed exercises combining fractions and whole numbers. Learners participate in a class quiz as revision.

Assessment Checks
Order the fractions 1/2, 1/6, 1/3
Expand 735 into place values
Write in words: 694

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
Ordering fractions helps compare sizes of parts. Review of whole numbers consolidates understanding of previous lessons. Fractions and whole numbers are foundational for more advanced arithmetic.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: The teacher reviews ordering of unit fractions and consolidates place value, expanded form, and whole number writing.

Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Arrange 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 in order from largest to smallest. Write 529 in words.

Assignment (Expanded)
Order 1/6, 1/8, 1/3, 1/2. Expand 4307.

Follow-up Activity
Students prepare 5 mixed questions combining whole numbers and fractions to exchange with classmates.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Weaker learners work with fraction strips and number charts. Advanced learners solve higher denominators and larger 4-digit numbers.
