Topic: Exercise and Physical Activity Integration
Sub-topic: Linking Health and Fitness
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Perform exercises safely to maintain physical fitness
Understand the link between physical activity and health

Previous Knowledge
Students already know about fitness exercises from earlier lessons

Instructional Materials
Whistle, mats, stopwatch

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Quick warm-up: jogging on the spot, stretching. Teacher asks: “How do you feel after warming up?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Input (Expanded & Detailed):

  1. Introduction & Explanation:
  • Teacher explains that exercise helps the body stay strong and fight sickness by improving muscles, heart, lungs, and immune system.
  • Emphasize that exercises improve balance, flexibility, and endurance, which help in daily activities and overall health.
  • Discuss age-appropriate examples:
    • Running and jumping make the heart strong.
    • Stretching helps reach high objects or bend safely.
    • Balance helps when walking on uneven surfaces or playing games.
  1. Demonstrations:
  • Teacher demonstrates simple exercises:
    • Balance: One-leg stand – stand on one foot, arms out for stability, hold for a few seconds.
    • Flexibility: Toe touch – bend forward to touch toes, keep knees slightly bent if necessary.
    • Endurance: Jumping jacks – arms and legs move together, continuous movement for several counts.
  • Explain proper form and safety tips for each exercise:
    • Keep knees slightly bent during toe touch to avoid strain.
    • Land softly after jumping jacks.
    • Focus eyes forward during one-leg stand to maintain balance.
  1. Practical Activities:
  • Learners perform each exercise in small groups or individually.
  • Count repetitions or time held for each exercise.
  • Observe and reflect on how their body feels (heart rate, breathing, muscle engagement).
  • Reflection prompts:
    • “Which exercise made your heart beat faster?”
    • “Which exercise was easiest or hardest?”
    • “How do you feel after completing the exercises?”

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Perform balance, flexibility, and endurance exercises following teacher demonstration.
  • Count repetitions, hold times, or complete a set duration for each exercise.
  • Observe peer performance and provide simple feedback (“Good balance!” or “Try to bend more slowly”).
  • Reflect individually or in groups on how exercises affect the body and overall feeling of fitness.

Assessment Checks (Expanded):

  • Observation: Teacher monitors form, posture, and safe execution.
  • Oral Questions:
    • “Which exercise makes your heart beat faster?”
    • “Why is balance important in daily activities?”
    • “How does stretching help your body?”
  • Practical Assessment: Learners correctly perform exercises with proper form, count repetitions, and explain effects on their body.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Exercise supports overall health by strengthening muscles, improving cardiovascular endurance, and boosting immunity.
  • Balance, flexibility, and endurance are key components of physical fitness and help prevent injuries.
  • Encourage learners to practice exercises regularly and pay attention to safe techniques.
  • Promote reflection so learners understand the benefits of exercise on their bodies and can connect physical activity to healthy living.
  • Ensure activities are age-appropriate, fun, and engaging to build lifelong habits.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Exercise makes the body strong and healthy.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Write one exercise that improves flexibility.
Assignment (Expanded): Practice one exercise at home and record how many times you do it.
Follow-up Activity: Teach a sibling one exercise.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Teacher modifies exercises for learners who need easier movements.
