Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask learners what they do when they fall sick. Discuss experiences visiting clinics or hospitals.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Explain the importance of seeking medical attention promptly when sick. Discuss how early treatment prevents complications, speeds recovery, and avoids spreading illness to others. Explain following a doctor’s instructions carefully, completing prescribed medications, and practicing self-care (rest, proper diet, hygiene). Introduce basic first aid: cleaning minor cuts, applying bandages, treating burns, and stabilizing minor injuries until professional help is available. Demonstrate techniques using a model or props. Highlight consequences of ignoring illness, such as worsening symptoms, prolonged recovery, or spreading disease.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Role-play visiting a clinic, describing symptoms to a doctor, and following instructions.
  • Practice basic first aid techniques (bandaging a small cut, cleaning a wound).
  • Discuss scenarios where delaying treatment leads to complications.
  • Share personal experiences of times they or family members received care promptly.

Assessment Checks:

  • Ask learners to list three reasons why early medical attention is important.
  • Observe learners performing basic first aid correctly.
  • Ask learners to explain the steps to follow when someone is sick at home.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Early medical care ensures faster recovery and prevents spread of diseases.
  • First aid is an immediate response to injuries or illness, buying time until professional help is available.
  • Emphasize that completing medication as prescribed and following doctor’s instructions are essential for effective treatment.
  • Teaching first aid and responsible healthcare behaviors promotes self-reliance, safety, and community well-being.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Review importance of treatment, first aid, and caring for others.
Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Write two reasons why seeking medical attention early is important.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.
Assignment (Expanded): Practice basic first aid at home with supervision.
Follow-up Activity: Make a poster showing steps to take when someone is sick.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Provide demonstration for learners with disabilities; pair learners for peer support.
