Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask learners to name common illnesses in their community and ways to avoid them.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Content focus:

  • Diseases in the community: Ebola, Lassa Fever, Yellow Fever, HIV. Explain how they spread and the importance of prevention.
  • Preventive measures:
    • Personal hygiene: handwashing, bathing, clean clothes.
    • Vaccination: immunization against diseases like yellow fever.
    • Environmental hygiene: proper waste disposal, clean water, avoiding stagnant water.
    • Social support: helping and caring for sick people respectfully.
  • Avoiding stigmatization: Treat everyone equally, show empathy, and offer support without discrimination.

Practical examples:

  • Demonstrate correct handwashing steps using soap and water.
  • Show pictures of safe vs. unsafe hygiene practices.
  • Story scenario: Caring for a sick neighbor while maintaining safety and hygiene.

  • Handwashing demonstration: Practice proper technique in pairs.
  • Role-play: Simulate caring for a sick family member while showing respect and hygiene.
  • Group discussion: Identify ways to prevent disease in homes and schools.
  • Poster creation: Design a poster illustrating at least three preventive measures for common diseases.
