Grade Level: Grade 3
Date: Week 17
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 17, Period 3
Topic: Indoor and Outdoor Activities
Sub-topic: Indoor activities (games, office work, indoor recreation), outdoor activities (farming, fishing, mining)
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to associate certain activities with indoor or outdoor situations according to weather/macro-climate

Previous Knowledge
Students know basic indoor and outdoor activities

Instructional Materials
Activity charts, pictures, local examples of indoor and outdoor work

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask learners what activities they do inside the home versus outside and during different weather conditions

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Explain the difference between indoor and outdoor activities:

  • Indoor activities: games, reading, office work, crafts, and recreation that can be done inside regardless of weather.
  • Outdoor activities: farming, fishing, mining, sports, and travel that are influenced by weather and macro-climate conditions.

Discuss how weather and climate determine the timing, safety, and success of these activities. Provide local examples: planting crops in the rainy season, fishing during calm seas, or playing indoor games during heavy rain. Use charts, pictures, and real-life scenarios to demonstrate the relationship between activities and climate.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Classify a list of activities into indoor or outdoor categories.
  • Create a weekly activity chart indicating which activities are suitable for rainy, dry, or mixed weather.
  • Discuss in pairs how they plan activities based on weather forecasts or seasonal patterns.

Assessment Checks:

  • Ask learners to name two indoor and two outdoor activities suitable for rainy and dry seasons.
  • Review the weekly activity charts for accuracy and reasoning.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Indoor activities are generally less affected by weather, making them reliable during extreme conditions.
  • Outdoor activities are highly dependent on macro-climate, requiring planning and adaptation to ensure safety and productivity.
  • Awareness of seasonal effects helps learners make informed decisions about when and where to carry out different activities.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap differences between indoor and outdoor activities and how climate/weather affects them

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: List one indoor and one outdoor activity and explain why the weather affects them
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback

Assignment (Expanded):
Keep a record for one week of indoor and outdoor activities and note weather influence

Follow-up Activity:
Observe community outdoor work and indoor activities during different seasons

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Use visual aids; pair learners for chart creation and discussion
