Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: Quick game of “Qu’est-ce que c’est?” in pairs to recall vocabulary.

Learner’s Role:
Respond orally, recall vocabulary, and use sentences.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)

  1. Review Vocabulary and Sentences (5–7 minutes)
Start by quickly reviewing all classroom vocabulary learned so far:
  • un cahier, un stylo, un crayon, une gomme, une règle, une chaise, une table, un livre, un sac, un tableau
    Review sentence structures previously taught:
  • “C’est un/une…”
  • “J’écris avec un stylo.”
  • “Je lis un livre.”

Use flashcards or real objects for visual reinforcement. Have the class repeat the vocabulary and sentences chorally to refresh pronunciation and memory.

  1. Introduce Dialogue Creation (5 minutes)
Explain that today learners will use vocabulary and verbs to create short conversations or dialogues. Demonstrate an example dialogue on the board:

Example Dialogue:
A: Qu’est-ce que c’est?
B: C’est un stylo.
A: Que fais-tu avec un stylo?
B: J’écris avec un stylo.

Explain the structure: one person asks “What is this?” and the other answers, then asks what you do with the object.

  1. Guided Dialogue Formation (10 minutes)
Divide the class into pairs. Give each pair a list of objects and verbs to help them build dialogues like the model. Circulate to assist with vocabulary, pronunciation, and sentence structure.

Encourage students to use:

  • Questions:
    • “Qu’est-ce que c’est?”
    • “Que fais-tu avec…?”
  • Answers:
    • “C’est un/une…”
    • “J’écris/lis/dessine avec…”

Model sentences and provide corrective feedback as needed. Emphasize the correct use of articles (un/une), verbs, and fluency.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Pair Work:
    • Practice asking and answering questions using the vocabulary and verbs.
    • Take turns playing roles (Questioner and Responder).
  • Small Group Role-Plays:
    • After practicing in pairs, form groups of 3–4 to create short dialogues or role-plays.
    • Use props or flashcards to make the activity engaging.
  • Class Sharing:
    • Volunteer pairs or groups present their dialogues to the class.
    • Encourage applause and positive feedback.

Assessment Checks

  • Teacher Observation:
    • Monitor oral participation.
    • Check for correct sentence formation, verb usage, and article agreement.
    • Note pronunciation clarity and fluency.
  • Peer Assessment:
    • During pair and group work, students provide each other with feedback on sentence accuracy and fluency.

Peer Review

  • Pairs or groups discuss strengths and areas for improvement in their dialogues.
  • Use simple feedback prompts like:
    • “Ton français est très bon!” (Your French is very good!)
    • “Peux-tu répéter la dernière phrase?” (Can you repeat the last sentence?)
    • “Fais attention à l’article ici.” (Be careful with the article here.)

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Focus on encouraging oral fluency rather than perfect accuracy at this stage.
  • Praise creativity and effort to build confidence.
  • Correct gently and model correct phrases to avoid frustration.
  • Reinforce the use of full sentences in dialogues, not just single words.
  • Use visual aids and gestures to help convey meaning.

Assignment (Homework)

Task:
Prepare a short dialogue for the next class that includes at least five classroom objects and uses the sentence structures:

  • “Qu’est-ce que c’est?”
  • “C’est un/une…”
  • “Que fais-tu avec…?”
  • “Je (verb) avec un/une…”

Instructions:

  • Write down your dialogue neatly.
  • Practice it at home, focusing on clear pronunciation.
  • Be ready to perform with a classmate.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
• Exit slip/quiz: Perform a mini dialogue with a partner.
• Follow-up Activity: Peer teaching of dialogue to another group.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
Support learners with visual cues and scaffolding during dialogues.
