Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• Can you name all the body parts we have learned?
• Can you describe what each part does?
Learner’s Role:
Participate in oral review, recall vocabulary, and point to body parts.
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
- Guide Labeling Diagrams and Matching Games (8–10 minutes)
- Provide learners with diagrams of the human body (blank or partially labeled).
- Explain instructions clearly: learners will label each body part using French vocabulary learned (la tête, les mains, le nez, etc.).
- Introduce a matching game where learners match French words on cards to pictures or parts on the diagram—this can be done individually or in small groups.
- Circulate, monitor, and support learners as needed, correcting mislabeling gently and reinforcing pronunciation.
- Facilitate Mini-Paragraph Writing and Spelling Bees (10 minutes)
- Ask learners to write a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) about themselves or a friend using body parts and senses vocabulary, e.g.:
Voici ma tête. J’écoute avec mes oreilles. Je vois avec mes yeux.
- Model an example paragraph on the board before writing time.
- Hold a spelling bee with key vocabulary to reinforce spelling and boost confidence. Encourage participation with positive feedback.
- Encourage Oral Role-Play Using Full Sentences (7–10 minutes)
- Organize learners into pairs or small groups for role-play exercises where they use phrases like:
- Voici ma main.
- C’est mon pied.
- Je sens avec mon nez.
- Qu’est-ce que c’est ?
- Je vois mes yeux.
- Encourage use of complete sentences, correct pronunciation, and natural intonation.
- Monitor groups, provide feedback, and encourage peer correction.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)
- Play Vocabulary Games
Participate actively in matching games and spelling bees to reinforce vocabulary retention.
- Label Diagrams
Label body parts on diagrams independently and collaborate in groups to check answers and help peers.
- Write Mini-Paragraphs
Compose simple paragraphs describing themselves or friends using body parts and senses vocabulary. Example sentences to include:
- Voici ma tête.
- J’écoute avec mes oreilles.
- Je touche avec mes mains.
- Draw and Label
Optionally, learners draw a simple figure of themselves or a friend and label body parts and senses in French.
Assessment Checks
- Observe Oral Fluency
Listen for smoothness, correct sentence structure, and accurate vocabulary use during role-plays.
- Evaluate Spelling and Sentence Construction
Review written paragraphs for proper spelling, sentence formation, and vocabulary application.
- Check Labeling Accuracy
Verify correctness of labeled diagrams individually and within groups.
Peer Review
- Exchange Work
Learners swap their written paragraphs and diagrams to review each other’s work for accuracy in vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure.
- Group Discussion
Encourage polite, constructive feedback with focus on improvements and praise.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
- Reinforce correct pronunciation and spelling by frequent recaps during activities.
- Encourage teamwork and peer support to build confidence and collaborative skills.
- Use positive reinforcement to motivate learners.
- Remind learners of gender and plural agreements in vocabulary, especially when labeling.
Assignment (Homework)
- Write a short paragraph (4-5 sentences) describing yourself or a friend using body parts and senses vocabulary.
- Example structure to guide students:
Bonjour, voici ma tête. J’écoute avec mes oreilles. Je vois avec mes yeux. Voici mes mains. Je touche avec mes mains.
- Encourage learners to illustrate their paragraph with a drawing and label the body parts in French.
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
• Exit slip/quiz: Label body parts on a blank diagram and write 3 sentences describing senses.
• Follow-up Activity: Pair discussion and mini role-play using learned vocabulary.
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
Provide visual aids, peer support, and hands-on activities for learners needing reinforcement.
Teacher’s Reflection:
• What worked well? Students were actively engaged in games and labeling.
• What needs improvement? Allow more time for writing mini-paragraphs.
• Students’ engagement level: ☑ High ☑ Medium ☐ Low
