Instructional Materials
Charts, videos, mats for demonstrations, props for role-play

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Discussion: Ask students what they would do in case of fire or flood. Quick brainstorming on safety rules

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Input (Expanded & Detailed):

  1. Types of Common Emergencies:
  • Fire: Danger from flames, smoke inhalation, or spreading fires
  • Flood: Rising water levels causing unsafe conditions
  • Burns: From hot objects, liquids, or flames
  • Choking: Airway obstruction from food or small objects
  1. Safety Rules and Preventive Measures:
  • Fire Safety:
    • Stop, Drop, and Roll if clothes catch fire
    • Know exit routes and evacuation procedures
    • Avoid playing with matches or flammable materials
  • Flood Safety:
    • Move to higher ground
    • Do not touch electrical equipment with wet hands
    • Listen to authorities and follow evacuation instructions
  • Burns:
    • Avoid hot surfaces or liquids
    • Use cool water immediately for minor burns
    • Cover with clean cloth if necessary and seek help for serious burns
  • Choking:
    • Chew food thoroughly
    • Do not run while eating
    • Learn basic response techniques (like back slaps for children)
  1. Demonstration and Role-Play:
  • Teacher models proper responses for each emergency
  • Learners practice stop-drop-roll, moving to safe areas, and simulated rescue of a choking person using dummies or props
  • Emphasize calm, careful, and safe actions

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Stations Rotation: Small groups rotate through stations practicing:
  1. Fire evacuation and stop-drop-roll
  2. Flood safety drills
  3. Cool water burn response and covering
  4. Choking simulation using props
  • Peer Observation: Students give feedback on safety, calmness, and correct procedure
  • Reflection: Discuss which emergency was most challenging and why

Assessment Checks (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Observation: Teacher monitors:
    • Correct execution of safety drills
    • Following instructions calmly
    • Proper use of preventive measures
  • Oral Questions:
    • “What should you do first if there is a fire?”
    • “How can you stay safe during a flood?”
    • “Why is it important to stay calm during an emergency?”
  • Peer Feedback: Learners explain one thing their partner did correctly

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Knowing emergency procedures protects life and reduces injuries
  • Practicing safely builds confidence and responsibility
  • Emphasize awareness of surroundings, calmness, and quick response
  • Integration of role-play makes learning practical and memorable

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap emergency types, safety rules, and practice procedures
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one emergency and the correct response
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Discuss with family what to do in emergencies at home
Follow-up Activity: Simulate an emergency drill in school
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Pair students for role-play to ensure inclusion and understanding
