Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 4
Date: Week 7
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 7, Period 2
Topic: Definition of Physical Fitness
Sub-topic: Meaning of Physical Fitness and its Components
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to define physical fitness and identify its components: strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health

Previous Knowledge
Students already know: Basic exercises and general physical activities from previous PE lessons

Instructional Materials
Measuring tape, weighing scale, mats, charts showing components of fitness

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Discussion: Ask learners what they think physical fitness means. Quick stretching and jogging in place to warm up

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Input (Expanded & Detailed):

  1. Definition of Physical Fitness:
  • Explain that physical fitness is the ability to perform daily activities effectively, have strength, endurance, flexibility, and maintain overall health.
  • Relate to students’ lives: “Being fit helps you play, learn, and do chores without getting too tired.”
  1. Components of Physical Fitness:
  • Strength: The ability to exert force; example: lifting a school bag, climbing stairs
  • Endurance: The ability to sustain physical activity; example: running during games, walking long distances
  • Flexibility: The range of motion of joints and muscles; example: reaching high shelves, bending to tie shoes
  • Cardiovascular Health: Efficiency of the heart and lungs; example: brisk walking, running, jumping activities
  1. Practical Demonstration:
  • Show correct technique for simple exercises for each component:
    • Strength: Wall push-ups or squats
    • Endurance: Jog in place or short relay
    • Flexibility: Toe touches, side stretches
    • Cardio: Jumping jacks or brisk walking
  • Measure students’ height and weight using a tape measure and weighing scale; explain how these relate to overall fitness and growth

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Exercise Practice: Students perform exercises for each component in small groups
  • Discussion: Students identify daily activities that reflect each component, e.g., climbing stairs = strength, running to catch a ball = endurance
  • Height and Weight Activity: In pairs, students measure each other and discuss what the numbers indicate about growth and fitness

Assessment Checks (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Observation: Teacher monitors correct technique, posture, and effort in exercises
  • Oral Questions:
    • “Name one activity that helps your muscles get stronger.”
    • “Which exercise improves your heart and lungs?”
  • Peer Discussion: Students explain how daily activities relate to fitness

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Physical fitness is essential for overall health, performance, and well-being
  • Emphasize regular participation in exercises to improve strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health
  • Relate fitness to practical, daily life benefits
  • Encourage students to practice exercises safely at home or during playtime
  • Reflection helps learners understand the connection between physical activity, health, and growth

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap meaning and components of physical fitness; reinforce importance of regular practice
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one component of fitness and an example activity
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Practice one activity for each fitness component at home
Follow-up Activity: Observe improvement in daily exercises over the week
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Offer alternative exercises for learners with limitations
Teacher’s Reflection (After Class)
