By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Define flexibility, demonstrate basic stretches safely, and explain the importance of flexibility for preventing injuries

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Basic stretching and bending movements from previous PE sessions

Instructional Materials
Mats, cones, posters of stretches, whistle

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Light jogging and stretching warm-up to prepare muscles

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Input (Expanded & Detailed):

  1. Definition of Flexibility:
  • Flexibility is the ability of muscles and joints to move freely through their full range of motion.
  • Explain in child-friendly terms: “Flexibility helps your body bend, stretch, and move easily without getting hurt.”
  1. Demonstration of Stretches:
  • Teacher demonstrates stretches for each major body part:
    • Arms: Arm circles, overhead stretches
    • Legs: Hamstring stretch, quad stretch, calf stretch
    • Back: Forward bend, side stretch
    • Torso: Trunk twist, side bends
  • Emphasize correct posture, slow controlled movements, and breathing during each stretch.
  1. Safety and Techniques:
  • Do not bounce or overstretch
  • Keep movements smooth and controlled
  • Breathe naturally: inhale before stretch, exhale while stretching
  • Avoid stretches if in pain or discomfort
  1. Examples:
  • Demonstrate how stretching before running or games improves performance
  • Show a chart with before and after stretching benefits

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Pair Practice: Students practice stretches in pairs
    • One student performs the stretch while the partner observes and provides gentle corrections
  • Group Stretching Routine: Lead the class in a 5-minute stretching circuit for all major body parts
  • Reflection: Students share which stretches felt easiest or most challenging
  • Integration: Discuss how flexibility helps in games, PE activities, and daily life

Assessment Checks (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Observation: Teacher checks that learners perform stretches safely with correct posture
  • Oral Questions:
    • “Why is flexibility important for your body?”
    • “Which stretch helps your legs move better?”
  • Peer Feedback: Students give constructive feedback on their partner’s stretching form

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Flexibility prevents injuries, improves posture, and enhances performance in sports and daily activities
  • Reinforce the habit of warming up and stretching before PE or exercise
  • Encourage students to practice stretches daily at home for better results
  • Visual cues (charts, demonstration videos) and peer support improve understanding and skill mastery

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap stretches performed, benefits of flexibility, and safety tips
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Learners demonstrate one stretch and explain its benefit
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Practice 3 stretches at home and record which muscles feel stretched
Follow-up Activity: Use stretches at the beginning of all PE sessions
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Provide alternative stretches for students with joint issues
Teacher’s Reflection (After Class)
