Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 4
Date: Week 31
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 31, Period 6
Topic: Exploration of Body Parts
Sub-topic: Body Types & Roles
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify different body types and explain the roles of major body parts

Previous Knowledge
Students already know: Names of basic body parts and simple movements

Instructional Materials
Body charts, diagrams, flashcards, mats

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Discussion on different body types; warm-up with “Simon Says” movement activity

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Sub-topics: Body Types and Roles/Functions of Body Parts

Body Types (Simplified):

  • Ectomorph: Slim, lean build
  • Mesomorph: Muscular, athletic build
  • Endomorph: Rounded, softer build

Roles/Functions of Major Body Parts:

  • Head/Brain: Thinking, controlling the body, decision-making
  • Arms: Lifting, holding, performing tasks
  • Legs: Movement, support, running, jumping
  • Torso: Protects internal organs, supports posture
  • Heart: Pumps blood throughout the body
  • Lungs: Breathing, supplying oxygen
  • Stomach: Digestion of food and absorption of nutrients

Skills Developed:

  • Labeling body parts accurately
  • Explaining the function of each body part
  • Connecting body parts to daily activities and movements

Examples/Activities:

  • Diagram Labeling: Learners label a chart or outline of the human body
  • Body Part Songs/Rhymes: Use catchy songs or chants to remember names and functions
  • Movement Activities: “Simon Says” or mimic exercises representing functions (e.g., pumping arms to show circulation, stomping legs for movement)

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Actively participate in labeling exercises
  • Explain the function of each body part to a peer or group
  • Perform simple movements representing the role of each body part (e.g., pretending to run, lift, breathe deeply)

Assessment Checks:

  • Observe learners labeling diagrams correctly
  • Ask learners to explain the role/function of selected body parts
  • Evaluate understanding through demonstration of movements representing body roles

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Reinforce the connection between body parts and daily life or physical activities
  • Encourage learners to relate body type and functions to personal experiences (e.g., running, lifting, balancing)
  • Understanding body parts fosters awareness of self-care, healthy habits, and physical fitness
  • Incorporate repetition and peer discussion to solidify comprehension

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap body types and functions of major body parts
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students label a diagram and state functions of two body parts
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Observe a family member performing daily tasks and note body parts used
Follow-up Activity: Recap body types in next PE session
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Provide visual and verbal cues, pair learners for support
