Instructional Materials
First Aid charts, bandages, gauze, images/videos showing minor injuries

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Discussion: Ask learners if they have seen someone get hurt and what was done. Quick brainstorm on what First Aid might be

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Input (Expanded & Detailed):

  1. Definition of First Aid:
  • Explain that First Aid is the immediate care given to someone who is injured or suddenly becomes ill, before professional medical help arrives.
  • Stress that First Aid is meant to save lives, reduce suffering, and prevent complications.
  1. Importance of First Aid:
  • Prevents infection in minor wounds
  • Reduces the severity of injuries
  • Can save lives in emergencies
  • Promotes safety and confidence in everyday situations
  1. Basic Principles:
  • Safety first: Ensure the scene is safe before helping
  • Calm approach: Stay calm to make clear decisions
  • Simple measures: Apply basic care like cleaning cuts, applying bandages, or putting pressure on a bleeding wound
  1. Situations Requiring First Aid:
  • Minor cuts and scratches
  • Bruises
  • Minor burns from hot objects
  • Nosebleeds or fainting
  1. Demonstrations and Examples:
  • Use safe props (bandages, cloth, toy cuts) to show how to clean and dress a wound
  • Show the difference between safe First Aid and risky actions

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Discussion in Pairs: Students share experiences of minor injuries at home or school
  • Identification Activity: Identify what type of First Aid would be needed for each example
  • Role-play: Students demonstrate giving simple care for a small cut or bruise using props
  • Reflection: Learners discuss how First Aid could prevent worsening of injuries

Assessment Checks (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Observation: Teacher checks participation in discussions and role-plays
  • Questions:
    • “In your own words, what is First Aid?”
    • “Give one reason why First Aid is important?”
  • Peer Feedback: Students provide constructive feedback on each other’s role-play

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • First Aid builds confidence in handling minor injuries
  • Emphasize that knowledge of First Aid can prevent accidents from becoming serious
  • Reinforce the idea that First Aid is not a replacement for professional medical care, but a temporary and immediate support
  • Encourage learners to practice safely and help others responsibly

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap definition, importance, and examples of First Aid
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one type of injury and the immediate care needed
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Observe a minor injury at home or school and note the First Aid applied
Follow-up Activity: Prepare a list of items needed in a basic First Aid kit
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Pair students for discussions to ensure everyone participates
