Grade Level: Grade 4
Date: Week 23
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 23, Period 4
Topic: Manipulative Games & Review
Sub-topic: Elastic Rope Game and Fitness Skills Integration
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to perform manipulative games, integrate previous fitness screening results, reflect on personal fitness improvements, and demonstrate teamwork

Previous Knowledge
Students already know: Manipulative skills, previous fitness screening activities, teamwork principles

Instructional Materials
Elastic rope, balls, cones, recording sheets

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Warm-up: Stretching, light jogging. Discussion: How previous games and fitness tests helped improve skills

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Definition & Explanation: Teacher explains that manipulative games involve handling objects with control and precision. Elastic Rope is used to practice throwing, catching, timing, coordination, and teamwork. Emphasize that combining fitness skills with gameplay makes practice more meaningful and fun.

Game Demonstration & Procedures:

  • Elastic Rope Manipulative Game:
    • Objective: Successfully throw and catch the rope between team members without dropping it while moving through a designated path.
    • Rules:
  1. Each player must maintain focus on the rope and teammate’s position.
  2. Teams rotate roles: thrower, catcher, and mover.
  3. No rough handling; ensure safe distances.
    • Demonstration: Teacher models proper grip, throwing technique, catching, and passing safely.
    • Integration: Incorporate elements of previously learned fitness screening, e.g., timing throws within a set interval or counting repetitions for endurance.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  1. Warm-Up: Light stretching focusing on arms, wrists, and shoulders for safe throwing and catching.
  2. Station Rotation: Students divide into small teams, rotating between:
    • Throwing and catching drills
    • Passing while moving along a path
    • Timing challenges (e.g., pass the rope five times in a minute)
  3. Team Practice:
    • Apply teamwork to coordinate throws and catches
    • Encourage verbal and non-verbal communication
    • Observe personal performance (accuracy, timing, control)
  4. Reflection: Students discuss:
    • Which skills improved their coordination
    • How teamwork helped achieve success
    • Personal progress compared to previous fitness screenings

Assessment Checks:

  • Teacher observes:
  1. Accuracy of throws and catches
  2. Hand-eye coordination and timing
  3. Teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
  • Ask learners reflective questions:
  1. “Which part of the game was easiest or hardest for you?”
  2. “How did your teamwork help your team succeed?”
  3. “What personal fitness skill improved while playing this game?”

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Manipulative games strengthen fine and gross motor skills, coordination, timing, and hand-eye control.
  • Integration with fitness screening reinforces self-awareness, goal setting, and improvement tracking.
  • Rotating stations and roles ensure all learners participate actively and practice multiple skills.
  • Encourages peer support, communication, and safety awareness.
  • Reflection sessions help learners connect gameplay with their physical fitness levels and personal development goals.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap game rules, skills practiced, and fitness improvements
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students write one skill or fitness improvement they noticed
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Prepare for Week 24 assessment by practicing fitness and game skills
Follow-up Activity: Review personal fitness progress and set goals for improvement
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Provide alternate roles in games to accommodate all abilities
Teacher’s Reflection (After Class)
