Week & Period: Week 5, Period 1
Topic: Stunts and Tumbling
Sub-topic: Basic stunts, Tumbling techniques, Safety and correct posture
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Perform basic stunts and tumbling safely, understand the importance of strength and coordination, and apply correct posture

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Basic movements, stretches, and balance skills

Instructional Materials
Mats, cones, posters of stunts, videos for demonstration

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Light jogging, stretching, and balance exercises

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher Input (Expanded & Detailed):

  1. Definition of Stunts and Tumbling:
  • Stunts: Physical movements that involve strength, balance, and coordination, often mimicking animal movements (e.g., bear crawl, crab walk, frog jumps).
  • Tumbling: Gymnastic-like rolling movements such as forward rolls and log rolls that develop coordination, flexibility, and body awareness.
  1. Demonstration of Basic Stunts:
  • Bear Crawl: Hands and feet on the floor, hips high, moving forward in a crawling motion.
  • Crab Walk: Sit, lift hips off the floor, walk backward on hands and feet.
  • Frog Jumps: Squat and leap forward, land softly.
  1. Demonstration of Tumbling:
  • Forward Roll: Tuck head, roll over back, land on feet safely.
  • Log Roll: Lie flat, roll sideways like a log, maintain tight body posture.
  • Safe Landing Techniques: Bend knees slightly, absorb impact, keep arms forward for balance.
  1. Safety and Correct Posture:
  • Stress controlled movements, proper body alignment, and awareness of surroundings.
  • Emphasize avoiding collisions and rolling on soft surfaces.
  • Encourage focus and confidence to reduce fear during tumbling.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Practice in Pairs/Small Groups: Students perform stunts and rolls under teacher supervision.
  • Guided Progression: Begin with simple stunts (bear crawl, crab walk), then advance to rolling techniques.
  • Observation & Feedback: Partners observe each other and provide feedback on balance, posture, and coordination.
  • Reflection: Students discuss which stunt or tumble was easiest or most challenging and why.

Assessment Checks (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Observation: Teacher monitors proper execution, posture, control, and confidence.
  • Oral Questions:
    • “Why is posture important in tumbling?”
    • “Which stunt helped you feel stronger or more coordinated?”
  • Peer Feedback: Students comment on safety, technique, and teamwork.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Stunts and tumbling develop strength, flexibility, coordination, confidence, and focus.
  • Emphasize safety, correct technique, and spatial awareness at all times.
  • Reinforce that controlled practice reduces risk of injury and builds self-assurance.
  • Encourage students to practice basic stunts and rolls at home or during free play while maintaining safety.
  • Reflection and peer feedback help learners internalize techniques and understand the relevance of posture and balance.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap stunts and tumbling performed, emphasize safety and posture
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Demonstrate one tumbling move and explain its benefit
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Practice one stunt or tumbling move at home on a safe surface
Follow-up Activity: Include stunts and tumbling in future PE warm-ups
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Provide simplified moves for learners with limited mobility
Teacher’s Reflection (After Class)
