Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks learners to share what happens in a family where children respect their parents and in one where they do not.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Introduction: Commandments and Peace

Teacher Begins With a Question:

“Have you ever seen people fighting or shouting at each other? How does it feel?”

(Allow learners to respond: “It’s sad,” “It’s scary,” “It’s noisy,” etc.)

Teacher Explains:

“God doesn’t want us to fight or quarrel. He wants us to live in peace — with our families, our classmates, and everyone in the community. That’s why He gave us commandments — His special rules — to help us live peacefully.”

  1. How Commandments Promote Peace

Definition Recap:

Commandments are God’s rules that guide how we live with Him and with other people.
They help people know what is right and wrong, and bring peace when they are followed.

  1. Real-Life Examples of Commandments Promoting Peace

In Families:

  • Children who obey their parents help make the home peaceful.
  • When family members speak kindly to each other, there is less fighting.

In Schools:

  • Pupils who respect their teachers and classmates help the class stay calm and organized.
  • When children don’t lie or cheat, everyone feels safe and fair.

In Communities:

  • People who keep promises and avoid quarrels help everyone live in harmony.
  • Helping a neighbor, greeting others kindly, or not taking what is not yours keeps the community friendly.

  1. Examples of Commandments in Everyday Practice

Commandment Principle

Everyday Example

Tell the truth

Not lying when asked about a mistake

Show respect

Saying “please” and “thank you,” listening without shouting

Help others

Assisting a classmate who dropped books

Keep promises

Doing chores when promised to parents

Avoid quarrels

Walking away from fights, solving problems with words

  1. Demonstration / Discussion

Role-Play Prompt:

“Let’s act out two situations:

  • In one, children are quarreling and not following any rules.
  • In the other, children are obeying rules and keeping peace.”

After the short plays, ask:

  • “Which group was peaceful?”
  • “Which group made you feel safe and happy?”

Learners’ Activities (Expanded)

  1. Listing Rules and Their Importance (Individual or Pair Work)
  • Learners list two rules from:
    • Home (e.g., "Say sorry when you hurt someone.")
    • School (e.g., "Raise your hand before speaking.")
  • Learners explain why the rule is important.
    • “It stops us from fighting.”
    • “It shows respect to others.”

  1. Role-Play Activity: Peace vs. Quarrels (Group Work)
  • In small groups, learners create and perform two short skits:
  1. A situation where rules are not followed (e.g., lying, shouting, disobeying).
  2. A situation where rules are followed (e.g., honesty, kindness, sharing).

Teacher leads discussion:

“What happened in each situation? Which one shows peace?”

  1. Matching Rules with Commandments (Interactive Game)
  • Learners receive two sets of flashcards:
    • One set has commandments (e.g., “Do not lie,” “Honor your parents”)
    • The second has real-life actions (e.g., “Telling the truth in class,” “Helping mum with chores”)

Learners match each commandment with the right example.

  1. Optional Extension – “Peace Begins With Me” Poster
  • Learners draw a picture or write a sentence showing how they bring peace by following God’s commandments.

Example sentences:

  • “I bring peace when I tell the truth.”
  • “I help my family when I obey.”

Assessment Checks (Oral or Written)

  1. How do commandments promote peace in families?
    • Expected: By helping children obey parents and respect one another.
  2. Give one example of how commandments help in school.
    • Example: Pupils respecting teachers and not lying helps the class stay orderly.
  3. Mention one daily action that shows obedience to commandments.
    • Examples: Telling the truth, helping a friend, not taking what isn’t yours.
  4. (Extension) “What happens when people don’t follow commandments?”
    • Sample answer: There is fighting, confusion, or sadness.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

Key Teaching Points:

  • Commandments are not just old Bible rules; they are guides for daily living.
  • When people obey God’s commandments, there is:
    • Peace at home
    • Order at school
    • Harmony in the community
  • Teach learners that each of them has a role in making their world peaceful by obeying God’s rules.

Faith & Moral Integration:

  • Romans 13:10 – “Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”
  • Matthew 22:39 – “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

God’s commandments are built on love — love for God and love for one another. Obeying them creates peace and unity.

Values Reinforced:

  • Obedience – Doing what is right even when it’s hard
  • Respect – Treating others with kindness and honor
  • Peace-making – Avoiding quarrels and solving problems calmly
  • Responsibility – Understanding actions have consequences

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Commandments promote peace and harmony in families, schools, and communities. Obeying commandments helps us respect and value others.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz:

  1. Give one way commandments help in the family.
  2. Mention one way commandments help in school.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write three things you can do this week to obey God’s commandments at home or school.

Follow-up Activity:
Learners observe one rule in their home or community and explain how it helps to keep peace.
