Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “What rules do people follow in your community to show respect to elders?” Learners respond with examples.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

  1. Introduction: Understanding Moral Laws in Communities and God’s Commandments

Teacher Explains:

“Every community, whether big or small, has moral laws or rules that help people live together peacefully. These rules guide how we treat one another—things like respecting elders, being honest, and caring for neighbors.”

“God also gave us commandments—special rules from Him to guide us in living right and loving others. Today, we will explore how community rules are very similar to God’s commandments and why it is important to obey both.”

  1. Definitions
  • Moral rules in communities: These are guidelines that help people in a society live peacefully and respect each other. They are often based on what is considered good or right by that community.
  • God’s commandments: These are rules given by God that teach us how to live holy and loving lives. They come from the Bible and show us what God expects from us.

  1. Examples and Comparisons

Community Moral Rule

God’s Commandment

Explanation

Respect for elders

Honor your father and mother (Exodus 20:12)

Both teach us to show respect and obedience to parents and elders, who guide and care for us.

Honesty

Do not lie (Exodus 20:16)

Both encourage telling the truth and building trust with others.

Caring for neighbors

Love your neighbor as yourself (Leviticus 19:18)

Both teach kindness, helping others, and treating people with love.

  1. Teacher Demonstration
  • Role-play scenario:
Have two learners act out a short skit where one learner disrespects an elder (e.g., interrupts, ignores advice) and another shows respect by listening and helping.
  • After the skit, ask the class:
“What happened when the elder was disrespected? How was the situation better when respect was shown?”
  • Relate back:
“This shows why communities and God’s commandments both want us to respect others — it keeps peace and shows love.”

  1. Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
  • Activity 1: Community Moral Rules List
Learners individually or in pairs list three moral rules they know from their community (e.g., no stealing, helping neighbors, being polite).
  • Activity 2: Matching Game
Provide learners with two sets of cards:
    • One set with community rules (e.g., “Respect elders,” “Be honest,” “Help neighbors”)
    • Another set with God’s commandments (e.g., “Honor your father and mother,” “Do not lie,” “Love your neighbor as yourself”)

Learners match pairs that correspond and explain why they go together.

  • Activity 3: Group Discussion
Facilitate a discussion with these questions:
    • “Why is it important to obey community rules?”
    • “Why is it important to obey God’s commandments?”
    • “What happens if people do not follow these rules?”

Encourage learners to reflect on how these rules help bring peace and happiness.

  1. Assessment Checks
  • Oral or written questions:
  1. Mention two moral rules in your community.
  2. How is the rule of respecting elders related to God’s commandments?
  3. Why should we obey both community rules and God’s commandments?
  • Sample expected answers:
  1. Examples: Respect elders, be honest, help neighbors.
  2. Both teach us to honor and respect parents and elders who guide us.
  3. Obeying both helps keep peace, builds trust, and shows love to God and people.

  1. Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
  • Community Moral Rules: Every society has its own way of guiding people’s behavior to live together in peace. These often come from traditions, cultures, or government laws.
  • God’s Commandments: These are universal, unchanging rules given by God to guide us in living holy lives and loving others.
  • Similarities: Many community rules are based on God’s commandments because God’s rules are perfect guides for right living.
  • Importance of Obedience:
    • Obeying community rules shows respect for the people around us.
    • Obeying God’s commandments shows our love for God and commitment to His ways.
    • Both help create harmony, reduce conflicts, and build strong communities.
  • Practical Application: Teach learners to see obeying rules not as restrictions, but as a way to show love, respect, and care for others, just as God intended.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Communities have rules that are similar to God’s commandments. Obeying both brings peace and harmony.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz:

  1. Mention one community rule and the matching commandment of God.
  2. Why is it important to obey both?

Assignment (Expanded):
Write three similarities between God’s commandments and the rules in your community.

Follow-up Activity:
Learners will observe one community rule during the week and explain how it helps keep peace.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners who struggle with writing may draw pictures of people obeying community rules. Teacher pairs weaker learners with stronger ones during matching activity.
