Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “When you do something wrong at school, what do you say to your teacher?” Students respond: “Sorry.” Teacher explains that repentance is saying sorry to God and changing our ways.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes
Topic: Repentance

  1. Teacher Explanation

Definition:
Repentance means turning away from sin and coming back to God with a sincere heart. It is more than just saying “I’m sorry”—it means changing your behavior and doing what is right.

Why It’s Important:

  • Sin separates people from God.
  • Repentance restores our friendship with God.
  • It brings peace, forgiveness, and a fresh start.

  1. Religious References & Examples

Bible Examples:

  • The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–32) – He left home, sinned, then returned and was welcomed by his father.
  • King David (Psalm 51) – After sinning, he prayed for forgiveness with a sincere heart.

Quranic Teaching:

  • Tawbah (repentance) – Allah is merciful and forgives those who sincerely turn away from sin.
    • Surah Az-Zumar 39:53: “Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins…”

Teacher emphasizes: Repentance must be sincere and shown through a change in actions.

  1. Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
  2. Dramatization:
    • In groups, learners act out The Parable of the Prodigal Son.
    • Focus on the son’s return, the father’s forgiveness, and the joy of being reconciled.
  3. Discussion:
    • Learners share realistic examples of things they might need to repent from (e.g., lying, being rude, disobedience).
    • Teacher helps guide understanding that repentance means not doing those things again.
  4. Simple Prayer Activity:
    • Learners stand or sit quietly and recite or repeat a simple prayer:

“Dear God, I am sorry for the wrong things I have done. Please forgive me and help me to do what is right. Amen.”

  1. Reflection Drawing (Optional Extension):
    • Learners draw two pictures: one showing a wrong action, the second showing the right behavior after repentance.

  1. Assessment Checks (Oral Q&A or written, as needed)
  1. What is repentance?
  2. Why is repentance important?
  3. Mention one Bible example of someone who repented.
  4. What does the Quran teach about repentance?

  1. Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
  • Repentance is a turning away from sin and coming back to God with a sincere and humble heart.
  • It restores peace and friendship between people and God.
  • The Bible teaches repentance through stories like the Prodigal Son and David.
  • The Quran emphasizes that Allah is merciful and forgives all sins when people sincerely repent (Tawbah).
  • Repentance should include:
    • Admitting the wrong
    • Asking for forgiveness
    • Choosing to stop the wrong behavior
    • Doing what is right instead

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Repentance is turning away from sin and returning to God. It is important because it restores peace with God. Bible and Quran both teach repentance and forgiveness.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Teacher asks learners to write the meaning of repentance and one example.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write a short story of a child who lied, repented, and changed his behavior.

Follow-up Activity:
Learners share at home one thing they want to repent of and pray about it.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Teacher simplifies stories for younger learners. Role play helps kinesthetic learners. Advanced learners connect repentance to receiving Salvation.
