Instructional Materials
Bible, Quran, role-play cards showing steps: realize sin, feel sorry, ask forgiveness, change behavior

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “When you break your toy, what steps do you take to fix it?” Students respond: finding the pieces, fixing it, and being careful. Teacher explains that repentance also has steps to fix our relationship with God.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes
Topic: Steps of True Repentance

  1. Teacher Explanation

Definition:
Repentance means turning away from sin and returning to God with a sincere heart.

The Four Steps of True Repentance:

  1. Realizing Sin – Recognizing that you have done something wrong.
  2. Feeling Sorry – Feeling regret or sorrow for your wrong action.
  3. Asking God for Forgiveness – Praying sincerely to God to forgive you.
  4. Changing Behavior – Making a decision to stop the sin and do what is right.

Key Point: True repentance is more than just saying “sorry” – it requires action and change.

  1. Religious References
  • Bible Reference:
    • Psalm 51 – David repents after his sin. He admits his wrong, feels deep sorrow, asks God for mercy, and promises to live rightly.
  • Quran Reference:
    • Tawbah (repentance) must be done sincerely with regret and a promise not to return to the sin.
    • Surah At-Tahrim 66:8: “O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance…”

  1. Teacher Demonstration

Acting Scene Example:

  • A child tells a lie.
  • Later, they realize it was wrong (step 1).
  • They feel bad about it (step 2).
  • They pray, asking God to forgive them (step 3).
  • They promise to always tell the truth (step 4).

  1. Learners’ Activities (Expanded)
  2. Group Role-Plays:
    • In small groups, learners dramatize simple repentance situations:
      • Disobeying a teacher → realizing the wrong → apologizing → changing behavior
      • Fighting with a sibling → feeling bad → asking God for forgiveness → choosing kindness next time
  1. Writing Activity:
    • Learners write the 4 steps of repentance in their notebooks.
    • Under each step, they give a short example from their own experience (e.g., “I realized I was rude to my friend” under Step 1).
  2. Discussion Prompt:
    • Why is changing your behavior important after asking God for forgiveness?

  1. Assessment Checks (Oral or Written)
  1. What is the first step of repentance?
  2. Why must someone change behavior after repenting?
  3. Mention one example of repentance in the Bible or Quran.
  4. Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
  • Repentance is a process, not just a moment.
  • True repentance involves recognizing sin, feeling sorrow, praying for forgiveness, and living differently.
  • David in the Bible (Psalm 51) and sincere Tawbah in Islam show that God forgives when people turn to Him honestly.
  • Children can practice repentance by being honest about their wrongs, asking forgiveness, and trying to do better.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: True repentance has steps – realizing sin, feeling sorry, asking for forgiveness, and changing behavior. This leads to forgiveness and a changed life.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Teacher asks learners to write two steps of true repentance.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write in your notebook the four steps of repentance and give a personal example for each.

Follow-up Activity:
Students practice repentance during prayer time at home and share next class.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Teacher uses simple role-play for struggling learners. Advanced learners are asked to explain why repentance without change is not true repentance.
