Subject: General Science
Grade Level: Grade 5
Date: Week 20
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 20, Period 4
Topic: Examples of Tissues, Organs, and Systems
Sub-topic: Identifying types of tissues, organs, and body systems
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify the four main types of tissues, list examples of organs, and recognize major body systems
Previous Knowledge
Students already know that the body is made of smaller units called cells
Instructional Materials
Charts of tissues and organs, diagrams of body systems, handouts, models
Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded): Students discuss different parts of the body and how they work together
Assessment Checks: Teacher asks for examples of body parts and guesses whether they are tissues or organs
Notes (Expanded & Detailed): Guide students to understand that cells combine to form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs form systems
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Learners’ Activities (Expanded): Teacher explains the digestive system using a diagram and a real-life analogy (“What happens to my rice?”). Students trace the path of food from mouth to stomach, intestines, and out as waste. Learners discuss the function of each organ. Hands-on activity: simulate digestion using a simple model with sand, water, and sieves to represent breakdown and absorption.
Assessment Checks: Teacher asks learners to name the main organs in the digestive system and describe their functions. Students explain what happens to food after swallowing.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed): The digestive system breaks down food into nutrients the body can use. Organs include mouth (chewing), stomach (mixing and acid breakdown), small intestine (absorption), large intestine (water absorption), and anus (waste removal). Use simple examples, e.g., “rice gets broken down into energy our body uses to run and play.”
C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Students summarize the relationship between cells, tissues, organs, and systems
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Name one type of tissue, one organ, and one system
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded): Create a chart showing tissue → organ → system
Follow-up Activity: Observe and identify different organs in diagrams or models
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies: Use group discussions and visual aids for students needing extra support
Teacher’s Reflection (After Class)
